Product Development Manager
We are looking for a Product Development Manager to lead the research, evaluation, sourcing, planning, and commercial deployment of commercial robotics, smart equipment, automation systems, and intelligent hardware solutions.
This is not a software, mobile app, or digital product management role. The position focuses on physical products, robotics, automation equipment, smart hardware, supplier coordination, and solution implementation.
As part of a growing business, you will play a key role in building our product portfolio, supplier network, product standards, and future product team from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct market research and identify suitable commercial robotics, smart equipment, automation systems, and intelligent hardware products based on business and customer needs.
- Evaluate and compare products based on functionality, technical specifications, reliability, cost, scalability, after-sales support, and commercial feasibility.
- Prepare product research reports, product comparisons, selection recommendations, and solution proposals.
- Source, screen, and evaluate local and international manufacturers, OEM/ODM partners, technology providers, and equipment suppliers.
- Manage supplier communications, product enquiries, quotations, technical documentation, sample arrangements, commercial discussions, and delivery coordination.
- Coordinate with suppliers on product specifications, technical requirements, customisation needs, hardware/software interfaces, production lead times, quality, warranty, and after-sales support.
- Build and maintain supplier databases, product databases, product selection criteria, and vendor evaluation standards.
- Develop standardised product documentation and reusable product solution templates.
- Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Technical, Procurement, Operations, and Management teams to translate business and customer needs into practical product solutions.
- Coordinate hardware, software, machines, peripheral equipment, and third-party systems for complete solution implementation.
- Drive products and solutions from initial research and evaluation through testing, Proof of Concept (POC), pilot projects, and commercial deployment.
- Identify and resolve product, supplier, technical integration, and project implementation challenges.
- Support the future recruitment, setup, and development of the product team as the business grows.
- Manage multiple products, suppliers, and projects simultaneously while ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Relevant experience in robotics, automation equipment, smart hardware, machinery, industrial equipment, mechatronic systems, or related technology sectors.
- Good understanding of physical hardware products, equipment selection, supplier management, and supply chain processes.
- Able to understand and evaluate product specifications, technical datasheets, equipment parameters, and supplier technical documentation.
- Experience in product research, product evaluation, supplier sourcing, vendor assessment, and commercial negotiation.
- Strong project management and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Able to independently prepare product comparisons, selection recommendations, and solution proposals.
- Strong analytical, planning, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Highly proactive, resourceful, and comfortable working in a fast-growing or startup environment.
- Able to work independently with limited supervision and take ownership of projects from planning to execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building a product function, product portfolio, or new business unit from 0 to 1.
- Experience in commercial robotics, service robots, cleaning robots, delivery robots, automation systems, or smart commercial equipment.
- Existing supplier or industry network within robotics, automation, or smart equipment.
- Experience working with suppliers or manufacturers in China, Southeast Asia, or international markets.
- Familiarity with OEM/ODM business models.
- Experience in system integration, multi-device solutions, or commercial technology deployment.
- Previous team leadership or team-building experience is an advantage.
Language Requirements
- Proficiency in Chinese is strongly preferred, as the role requires communication with Mandarin-speaking suppliers, manufacturers, and technical partners.
