Summary

To help us continue to grow our offerings, we’re searching for a Product Development Engineer who is responsible for the design, development, testing, and implementation of new products and product improvements from concept through production. This position works closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Marketing, and external suppliers to develop innovative, manufacturable, and code-compliant products while supporting existing product lines through sustaining engineering activities. The engineer serves as a key technical resource throughout the product lifecycle, balancing innovation with manufacturability, cost, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

    Product Development

    • Design and develop new products from concept through commercialization.
    • Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and product specifications.
    • Develop prototypes and coordinate fabrication and evaluation.
    • Conduct engineering calculations and design verification.
    • Participate in product brainstorming and concept development.

    Sustaining Engineering

    • Support existing product lines through continuous product improvements.
    • Investigate field issues, customer complaints, and manufacturing concerns.
    • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
    • Evaluate product changes for cost, manufacturability, and quality improvements.

    Manufacturing Support

    • Work directly with Operations and Manufacturing to improve production efficiency.
    • Assist with product launches and production implementation.
    • Support troubleshooting of manufacturing issues.
    • Evaluate tooling, fixtures, and production processes.
    • Ensure designs follow Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.

    Product Testing & Validation

    • Develop and execute engineering test plans.
    • Coordinate laboratory testing and third-party certifications.
    • Analyze test data and prepare engineering reports.
    • Validate product performance against specifications and regulatory requirements.

    Documentation

    • Create and maintain engineering drawings.
    • Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs).
    • Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
    • Develop technical specifications and installation documentation.

    Supplier & Materials Support

    • Collaborate with suppliers during product development.
    • Evaluate new materials and manufacturing processes.
    • Support sourcing activities through technical reviews.
    • Review supplier capabilities for new product requirements.

    Code Compliance

    • Support product certifications and regulatory approvals.
    • Assist with product testing for ICC-ES, UL, FM, OSHA, ASTM, AAMA, and other applicable standards.
    • Research building codes and industry standards.
    • Maintain compliance documentation.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work closely with Manufacturing, Operations, Purchasing, Marketing, Quality, Sales, and Customer Service.
    • Participate in project meetings.
    • Present technical information to management and project teams.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
    • 3–7 years in product development or manufacturing engineering.
    • Experience designing products for manufacture.
    • Experience supporting production environments.
    • Ideal experience with sheet metal design, plastics and injection molding, aluminum extrusions, manufacturing processes, product testing, building products, regulatory compliance, product launches.
