Product Engineer I
Summary:
Provide product design, development, and engineering support for specific projects, including legacy product re-engineering, quality and field issue investigation, component updates, mechanical/fluidics troubleshooting, CAD (3D modeling and 2D drawing updates), prototype support, and supervised testing in compliance with customer, manufacturing, service, quality, and regulatory requirements. This role supports hands-on problem solving under senior engineering guidance and is suited for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude, curiosity, learning agility, and strong sense of accountability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support Senior Engineers with technical design activities including component research, drawing updates, prototype builds, bench testing, mechanical/fluidics troubleshooting, and design verification activities for refrigeration, mechanical, and fluid systems equipment.
- Perform engineering calculations and analytical modeling including tolerance stack-up, fluid flow, pressure drop, heat transfer, material stress, and component sizing.
- Support sustaining product design improvements, including test setup and planning, fixture setup, execution, coordination of product testing activities, data collection, observation recording, documentation of reliability and validation testing, failure analysis, and escalation of abnormal results.
- Generate models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks, including part models, assemblies, and drawing revisions, and support tolerance updates and Engineering Change processes.
- Assist with prototype part development, including 3D-printed samples, bench mockups, supplier sample reviews, and fit/function checks.
- Participate in investigations to support field and product performance issue resolution.
- Prepare draft engineering models and drawings, including redlines, Bill of Materials (BOM) updates, deviation inputs, and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) support documentation for engineer review and release.
- Follow and maintain methods and procedures for transfer of design packages including part and assembly drawings, BOMs, and other documentation required.
- Review and monitor part revisions and history using Workgroup Product Data Management (PDM), following Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) procedures for document control, revision tracking, and released drawing access.
- Support targeted product updates, including component substitutions, mechanical/fluidic improvements, and customer-specific configuration changes.
- Participate in supplier communications including sample requests, technical clarification, drawing reviews, and documentation of supplier responses.
- Support manufacturing, quality, service, and field issue response by gathering data, reviewing drawings, inspecting parts, and communicating findings through responsible engineers.
- Participate in cross-functional teams and project reviews supporting product improvements and commercialization, providing clear status updates on tasks, test results, issues, and risks.
