Product Engineer (Software Engineer)

Summary

Build end-to-end features for a consumer fintech app that helps users optimize taxes, manage paychecks, and build credit using event-driven backends, REST APIs, and PostgreSQL.

About the Role

Join a growing consumer fintech company on a mission to make personal finance accessible and stress-free. As a Product Engineer, you'll build features end-to-end that help real users optimize their taxes, bridge paychecks, and build credit — directly contributing to their financial wellbeing. You'll work closely with product, engineering, and business leaders in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

What You'll Do

  • Build product features end-to-end, including domain models, business logic, and API integrations.

  • Drive deployment and iteration using a data-driven, incremental release approach toward ambitious milestones.

  • Leverage robust data pipelines and analytics infrastructure; write SQL and use analytics tools to evaluate product and system performance regularly.

  • Debug complex state machines in an event-driven, pub/sub backend to ensure a seamless user experience.

  • Ship to production through a rapid CI/CD process, owning implementations end-to-end and responding to production incidents as needed.

What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

  • 3+ years building backend features end-to-end for production systems.

  • Proficiency designing and consuming RESTful APIs, including authentication/authorization patterns and rate limiting.

  • Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (e.g., Kafka, Pub/Sub, or similar).

  • Experience debugging complex state machines in event-driven systems.

  • Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), including data modeling and query optimization.

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, automated testing, and code review processes.

  • Experience writing SQL and using analytics tools to evaluate system and product performance.

  • Proven experience building consumer-facing products (not B2B only).

  • Strong computer science fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, and system design.

  • Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with Go (Golang) deployed on GCP.

  • Background at early-stage startups or high-growth environments.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $120,000 – $200,000 USD annually, depending on experience.

  • Visa sponsorship is available.

Location

This is an on-site role based in San Francisco, CA. Candidates should be prepared to work in-office.
