Summary

First dedicated Product Manager for a new 0-to-1 cross-border FX and payments product line in Chennai: run customer discovery with banks and fintechs, define personas, MVP scope and roadmap, own the Jira backlog, and partner with the Solution Architect and engineers on API design through MVP launch and KPI tracking.

Job Description Product Manager, Cross-Border FX & Payments Product

Role & responsibilities:

You will be the first dedicated Product Manager for this new product line. This is a 0-to-1 role: there is a clear market opportunity, a capable engineering team and early API work, but no defined product yet.

You will take it from customer discovery to a launched MVP. That means defining who we serve, what problems we solve for them, what we build first, and how engineering delivers it. You will work closely with our Solutions team, Solution Architect, Engineering Manager, and commercial leadership.

  • Title: Product Manager
  • Reports to: TBD
  • Location: [City / Hybrid / Remote]
  • Employment type: Full-time

What you'll do

Discover and define the product

  • Run customer discovery with bank clients, fintechs and internal Solutions teams to understand cross-border payment, FX and multi-currency account needs.
  • Build personas for the buyers and users we serve, such as treasury teams, payment operations, finance controllers and integration developers.
  • Map end-to-end journeys: onboarding and KYC, wallet and account setup, FX conversion, payouts, collections, reconciliation and reporting.
  • Translate the underlying FX and payments capabilities into a clear value proposition for our clients, and decide where Axletree adds value on top.

Shape strategy and roadmap

  • Write the product vision, problem statements and success metrics for the product line.
  • Define the MVP scope and a phased roadmap beyond it, with clear trade-offs and rationale.
  • Work with commercial leadership on packaging, pricing inputs and go-to-market readiness.
  • Track the competitive landscape, including other FX and cross-border payment providers.

Turn strategy into buildable work

  • Break the product down from personas to epics, features and user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Own and prioritize the backlog in Jira, and keep Confluence documentation current.
  • Meet the team's Definition of Ready before work enters a sprint, and take part in grooming, sprint reviews and demos.
  • Partner with the Solution Architect and engineers on API design, workflows and edge cases without dictating the solution.

Launch and learn

  • Coordinate MVP launch, client pilots and go-to-market sign-off with Solutions, Sales, Compliance and Support.
  • Define and track product KPIs such as client activation, transaction volume, FX revenue and time to first payment.
  • Feed what clients tell us back into the roadmap.

Preferred candidate profile

  • 5+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 years in payments, fintech or banking technology.
  • A track record of taking a product from zero to launch, including discovery, MVP definition and first release.
  • Working knowledge of cross-border payments and FX: multi-currency accounts, conversions, payouts, collections, settlement and reconciliation.
  • Comfort with API-first, B2B or B2B2C products sold to banks or financial institutions.
  • Strong product craft: personas, journey mapping, problem framing, prioritization frameworks, and well-written user stories with acceptance criteria.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence, and with working inside Agile/Scrum teams.
  • Enough technical fluency to read API documentation, discuss data models and integration flows, and hold your own with architects and engineers.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with clients, executives and engineers alike.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a habit of creating structure where none exists.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience building on or integrating with third-party FX and payment providers.
  • Familiarity with SWIFT, ISO 20022 or other payment messaging standards.
  • Exposure to compliance topics such as KYC/KYB, AML, safeguarding and licensing across regions.
  • Experience working with banking clients through long, multi-stakeholder sales and onboarding cycles.
  • Experience defining pricing or commercial models for transaction-based products.
  • A background in engineering, business analysis or solutions consulting.
