Product Manager, CRO

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Product Manager, CRO based in the United States.

This is a high-impact, zero-to-one product leadership opportunity focused on shaping solutions for the CRO and supplier side of the biotech ecosystem.
You will own the product strategy from discovery through delivery, defining what is worth building and why.
The role combines deep customer discovery, market validation, commercial strategy, and product development.
You’ll engage directly with CROs, suppliers, and biotech customers to uncover meaningful problems and test potential solutions.
Working closely with business, engineering, data, sales, and client-facing teams, you’ll turn validated opportunities into an actionable roadmap.
The environment is entrepreneurial and highly ambiguous, offering substantial autonomy to establish a new product space.
With strong performance and business growth, the role can evolve into senior or principal ownership of the portfolio or a dedicated business segment.

Accountabilities:

  • Own CRO product strategy: Define the product vision and strategy for the CRO and supplier side of the business, bringing existing ideas and early initiatives into a coherent direction and clearly communicating the market opportunity.
  • Lead customer discovery: Engage directly with CROs, suppliers, and biotech customers to understand workflows, pain points, unmet needs, and sources of value across the CRO journey.
  • Validate market opportunities: Develop and test hypotheses, determine which opportunities demonstrate genuine customer and commercial value, and confidently eliminate ideas that do not hold up.
  • Connect customer needs to commercial outcomes: Identify sustainable sources of value across the ecosystem and develop business models and value propositions that work for both biotech customers and their research partners.
  • Build and prioritize the roadmap: Determine where the business has the strongest opportunity to win and translate that assessment into a phased, focused roadmap with clear prioritization and trade-offs.
  • Partner with business leadership: Work closely with CRO business leaders, combining product ownership with commercial and domain expertise while continuously sharing discovery findings and recommendations.
  • Drive cross-functional execution: Collaborate with product development, engineering, data, sales, and client-facing teams to turn strategic opportunities into products that can be successfully delivered and commercialized.
  • Stay engaged through delivery: Translate research and strategy into well-defined product initiatives, remain involved throughout development, and ensure execution stays connected to the original customer and business objectives.
  • Establish the foundation for future growth: In the first 90 days, build relationships with key stakeholders, map the CRO journey, conduct initial customer discovery, challenge existing assumptions, establish a point of view, and recommend the first phase of investment.
  • Measure success through impact: Establish a clear product narrative, validate the highest-value opportunities, define scalable products, create a credible phased roadmap, and move the portfolio toward meaningful revenue and business value.
  • Requirements:

    • Product management experience: 5+ years of product management experience, with direct ownership of product decisions, priorities, and outcomes.
    • CRO ecosystem expertise: Meaningful, hands-on knowledge of the contract research organization ecosystem and how CROs operate, buy, sell, and collaborate.
    • Zero-to-one product experience: Demonstrated experience defining an emerging product space, market, or product line from scratch rather than simply executing an established roadmap.
    • Strong discovery capabilities: Skilled in customer research, hypothesis development, validation, and experimentation, with the judgment to stop pursuing ideas that lack evidence.
    • Commercial thinking: Able to connect customer problems to viable commercial models, evaluate business value, and defend prioritization decisions with clear reasoning.
    • Comfort with ambiguity: Energized by loosely defined problems and capable of creating structure, direction, and momentum without relying on an inherited framework.
    • Cross-functional leadership: Strong communicator who can align product, engineering, data, sales, business, and client-facing stakeholders around a common strategy.
    • Helpful industry experience: Background working for a CRO, serving CROs as a vendor, or developing products for the CRO, biotech, life sciences, or supplier ecosystem.
    • Relevant product backgrounds: Experience with marketplaces, two-sided platforms, procurement, sourcing, SaaS, or platform products in regulated or complex environments is advantageous.
    • Additional domain expertise: A scientific background or experience with contract research, biotech, life sciences, or supplier/vendor-side operations is a plus.
    • Benefits:

      • Base salary: $130,000–$145,000 USD annually.
      • Performance incentive: Eligibility for a discretionary company bonus based on overall company performance; the bonus is not guaranteed.
      • Health insurance: Blue Cross Blue Shield medical coverage with 100% of employee premiums paid.
      • Dental insurance: BCBS dental coverage with 100% of employee premiums paid.
      • Vision: VSP vision coverage.
      • Healthcare accounts: Flexible Spending Account and Health Savings Account with an employer contribution.
      • Retirement: 401(k) and Roth 401(k) options.
      • Time off: Paid holidays and paid vacation/unlimited PTO.
      • Additional perks: Complimentary Calm subscription, pet insurance, legal assistance, and other employee benefits.
      • Work arrangement: Fully remote role, with headquarters located in Burlington, Massachusetts.
