Summary
Lead the Developer Experience program at a large financial firm, improving engineers' workflows by reducing friction and increasing self-service through discovery-led product management.
Product Manager, VP - Developer Platforms & Experience
About the role
We are building on our investment in Developer Experience as a strategic capability and are seeking an experienced Product Manager to help shape and scale our Developer Experience program.
This role will focus on improving the day-to-day experience of engineers across the firm by reducing friction, increasing self-service, and enabling teams to build, test, deploy, and operate software more effectively.
We view engineers as customers and Developer Experience as a product. Success in this role will come from understanding developer needs deeply, validating opportunities through discovery, and ensuring delivery investments are focused on the problems that matter most.
Working closely with Engineering, Experience Research, Platform teams, Architecture, and Design, you will leverage qualitative insights, quantitative data, feedback, and operational metrics to shape product priorities and decisions.
A key part of the role will be partnering with engineering teams to establish and manage dual discovery and delivery tracks. Discovery will help teams identify the right problems, test assumptions, and build confidence before delivery moves forward.
This is a highly collaborative role with senior visibility across Global Technology and the opportunity to influence how engineers experience work at scale.
What you’ll do
Develop a deep understanding of the developer experience across the software development lifecycle
Treat engineers as customers, using research, feedback, data, and experimentation to guide product decisions
Partner with Engineering, Platform teams, and Experience Research to identify pain points, unmet needs, and opportunities
Invest time in product discovery to validate problems, test assumptions, and build confidence in business decisions
Establish and manage dual discovery and delivery tracks with engineering partners
Define product strategy, roadmaps, and outcomes for Developer Experience initiatives
Prioritise opportunities that reduce friction and improve developer productivity, satisfaction, and effectiveness
Work closely with Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Platform teams to deliver scalable solutions
Define success measures and track adoption, satisfaction, productivity, and business outcomes
Communicate product vision, priorities, trade-offs, and progress clearly to senior stakeholders
Impact you’ll have
Engineers can build, test, deploy, and operate software more effectively
Friction across key developer workflows is reduced
Product decisions are increasingly grounded in evidence rather than assumptions
Discovery becomes a stronger foundation for prioritisation and delivery
Adoption of developer platforms, tools, and self-service capabilities increases
Engineering teams spend less time navigating avoidable complexity and more time delivering value
Developer Experience becomes a measurable contributor to engineering effectiveness, engagement, and talent retention
What we value
Skills and attributes that will help you succeed in this role:
Strong product management experience in platform, infrastructure, developer tooling, or enterprise environments
Passion for improving developer experience and engineering effectiveness
Experience working in discovery-led product environments
Strong problem-framing, prioritisation, and decision-making skills
Ability to balance developer needs, business goals, technical constraints, and risk considerations
Comfortable working with research, data, metrics, and experimentation to inform product direction
Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills
Curiosity, empathy, and a strong customer mindset
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and leading through influence rather than authority
Experience & preferred qualifications
6-10+ years of Product Management experience
Experience delivering platform, developer tooling, infrastructure, or enterprise software products
Experience working in Agile or modern product development environments
Experience using customer, user, or employee research to inform product decisions
Experience working in large, complex organisations
Ability to partner effectively with senior engineering and technology leaders
Nice to have
Experience within financial services or another regulated environment
Familiarity with Internal Developer Platforms and developer portals such as Backstage
Exposure to platform engineering, cloud, DevOps, or CI/CD ecosystems
Experience working with developer productivity, developer satisfaction, or engineering effectiveness metrics
Familiarity with AI-enabled developer tools and their impact on engineering workflows
Why this role matters
Developer Experience has a direct impact on engineering productivity, software quality, employee engagement, and the ability to attract and retain exceptional engineering talent.
This role will help shape how Developer Experience is understood, measured, prioritised, and improved across the firm. By reducing friction and enabling engineers to focus on high-value work, you will influence both the day-to-day experience of engineering teams and the long-term success of our technology strategy.
