Product Manager

Summary

Lead internal tech platforms at KPMG NZ, owning end-to-end delivery, support, and lifecycle of enterprise SaaS and desktop apps while managing a small team of developers and product owners.

KPMG New Zealand is part of the international KPMG network and one of the world’s leading professional services organisations. We provide audit, tax and advisory services to individuals, SMEs, multi‑nationals and government agencies.

Locally, we’re known for our values‑driven culture and strong staff engagement, anchored in our purpose of fuelling New Zealand’s prosperity. This purpose drives everything we do, from our client work to internal practises, all guided by our shared values of Integrity, Courage, Excellence, Together, for Better.

The Opportunity:

This is a rare chance to lead the internal technology platforms that keep KPMG running. As Product Manager in our Information Technology Services (ITS) team, you'll take end to end ownership of the firm's core internal workflow products alongside supporting the wider portfolio of enterprise SaaS and desktop applications that the business depends on.

This is as much a leadership role as a technical one. You'll manage a small team of developers and product owners and own the Level 3 application support function that keeps our enterprise and desktop applications healthy. Alongside new delivery, you'll be accountable for the day to day: developing your people, resolving issues, and ensuring systems remain maintained, secure and fit for purpose. You'll also provide technical leadership, helping shape how products, integrations and data flows work together across the firm's broader technology landscape.

No two days look the same. You might spend the morning shaping requirements with a build vendor, then move on to prioritising a support backlog, turning a regulatory quality control into a working feature, or walking senior partners through how a design decision affects the way they run their practice. It's a genuinely broad role with real ownership and visibility across the firm.

If you enjoy leading people, turning complex and ambiguous problems into clear solutions, and being the person who understands both the business need and the technology beneath it, this role is made for you.

Day to day you will:

  • Lead and develop a team of developers and product owners, setting direction, managing performance, coaching and building capability.
  • Own the product lifecycle for KPMG NZ's internal platforms, including roadmap planning, business cases, investment decisions, delivery, support and end of life management.
  • Lead the delivery of major initiatives and continuous improvement activities, managing priorities, risks, stakeholders and outcomes while ensuring value is realised.
  • Translate business needs into clear requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria, and manage the backlog and change process that keeps delivery moving.
  • Partner with testing, change and business teams to ensure solutions are well designed, thoroughly tested and successfully adopted.
  • Oversee Level 3 application support across enterprise SaaS and desktop applications, including incident management, problem resolution, maintenance, patching, upgrades and security remediation.
  • Own the data, integration and reporting requirements for your products, working closely with internal teams and external vendors to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and ensure products meet the firm's quality, security, compliance and change management standards.

What you will bring to our team:

  • 7+ years' experience as a Product Manager, Product Owner, Delivery Lead or senior technology lead delivering and running software products or platforms, ideally in a professional services, financial services or similarly regulated environment.
  • Proven people leadership experience, managing developers, product owners and/or support analysts, including performance management, coaching and capability building.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise applications, integrations and solution design, with the ability to assess how systems fit together and make sound build versus buy decisions.
  • Experience working with enterprise SaaS platforms and business-critical applications within a complex environment.
  • Experience running an application support function, including incident and problem management, bug triage, SLAs, system maintenance, patching, upgrades and security/vulnerability management.
  • A strong track record managing the full delivery lifecycle, including requirements elicitation, user stories, acceptance criteria, backlog management and release planning in an Agile or hybrid delivery model.
  • Demonstrated experience managing third-party software vendors, including SoWs, scope, cost and quality, and holding delivery partners to account.
  • Confidence working across the technical landscape, including integrations and APIs, cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS), Microsoft Power Platform, SQL and data feeds, and Jira/Azure DevOps.
  • Strong business process mapping and requirements skills, with the ability to document current and future state processes clearly and precisely.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical teams, business stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • A bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Preferred:
    • Formal solution architecture experience or certification (e.g. TOGAF) and/or experience working with enterprise business platforms.
    • Familiarity with quality management or assurance frameworks (e.g. ISQM 1) or working alongside audit, risk or security assurance teams.
    • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI), Azure integration services or cloud migration initiatives.
    • Product Management, Business Analysis or ITIL/service management certification (e.g. Agile/Scrum Product Owner, CBAP/CCBA, BCS, ITIL or equivalent).
