Product Manager, Patient Experience

Discussion

Summary

Own the end-to-end patient onboarding product for Helix, partnering with teams to ship enhancements that improve user experience and align with the company’s genomics-driven healthcare mission.

Who We Are & What We Do

At Helix, our mission is simple: to help everyone improve their lives through their DNA.

Ready to make a real-world impact with your skills? At Helix, we're transforming healthcare by making genomics a standard of care. We partner with health systems and life science companies to accelerate the integration of genomic data into clinical practice. Join us in building a future where healthcare is personalized, proactive, and powered by genomics.

What Is Special About This Role?

The patients you are onboarding are not just users — they are research participants whose genomic data will shape the standard of care. As the Product Manager for the Helix patient experience, you will own the end-to-end product for enrolling patients into our research study platform, which powers health system partnerships across the country. This is a high-visibility role at the intersection of patient experience, regulatory rigor, and healthcare technology — and you will need to champion the patient while navigating health system complexity.

You will bring clarity and conviction to a cross-functional team operating in an AI-native environment. That means you will spend less time managing timelines and more time on high-judgment problem definition, rapid experimentation, and strategic orchestration. You will define the Why and the What with precision, and use AI as a force multiplier to reach validated solutions faster than was previously possible.

Key Responsibilities

High-Judgment Problem Definition
  • Clearly define the customer problem before a single line of code is written — ensuring the team is always solving the right issue.
  • Maintain a product vision that connects patient and health system needs to Helix's business growth, serving as the primary filter for what is worth building.
  • Distill complex market signals, partner requirements, and user pain points into narratives that align stakeholders across the organization.

Product Discovery and Rapid Validation
  • Orchestrate AI tools and agents to synthesize market context, analyze competitive landscapes, and evaluate solution approaches in hours and days rather than weeks.
  • Direct the idea-to-prototype cycle with urgency, ensuring solutions are user-tested quickly and roadmap pivots are evidence-based.
  • Own the validation process: analyze stakeholder feedback and behavioral data to make immediate, informed decisions about product direction.

Roadmap and Strategic Prioritization
  • Own and maintain a living roadmap — updated as evidence shifts, not on a quarterly calendar — and make high-stakes tradeoff decisions including what not to build when technical cost is low but cognitive cost to the user is high.
  • Ensure the health of the Helix Hosted Consent product, including data privacy, security, and governance considerations within a regulated healthcare context.

Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Collaborate with design, engineering, delivery, research operations, clinical, regulatory, and support teams to ship enhancements that meet user needs and business goals.
  • Keep the delivery cadence healthy — unblocking the team before blockers become delays, and maintaining quality across the full product lifecycle.
  • Bridge the gap between AI-driven speed and human alignment — distilling technical outputs into clear narratives that maintain stakeholder trust and drive executive buy-in.
  • Lead a culture of high-integrity debate: challenge the idea, not the person, and move the team from discussion to conviction quickly.

About You
  • 5+ years of product management experience in highly cross-functional and/or customer-centric roles.
  • Demonstrated AI fluency — you treat AI tools as a core part of your workflow, using them to accelerate discovery, analysis, prototyping, and communication.
  • Working knowledge of the healthcare industry and regulatory landscape.
  • You move from ambiguous problem to shipped solution without waiting for someone to hand you a plan — and you do it without losing sight of the user and KPIs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; you know how to say no while making it feel like an opportunity.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and improving user experiences for complex digital products.
  • You build consensus and listen well, but you also drive hard decisions when consensus is not available.

Pluses
  • Familiarity with regulated environments, including HIPAA, CLIA/CAP, CCPA/CPRA.
  • Experience with electronic health records, interoperability, and the US healthcare domain.
  • Experience working closely with health systems or other enterprise healthcare partners.

How We Measure Success in This Role

  • Learning velocity: Insights reach user-tested prototypes in days. AI time savings are reinvested into deeper customer learning, not absorbed into planning overhead.
  • Strategic clarity: The customer problem and success criteria are defined with enough precision that the team is never uncertain about the objective — not a fixed plan, but a fixed North Star.
  • Narrative quality: Complex tradeoffs and data-driven insights are distilled into clear, human-centric narratives. Success is measured by the speed of stakeholder alignment, not the volume of documentation produced.
  • Judgment accuracy: Scope and prioritization decisions are consistently backed by evidence when available, and by business-informed intuition when not. The hit rate of shipped solutions that deliver measurable value matters more than feature volume.
  • AI orchestration: You effectively use AI as a force multiplier across every competency — from writing specs to conducting data analysis to running competitive research. You automate the How so you can focus entirely on the What and the Why.
