Job Description:
AFS is seeking a detail-oriented Agile practitioner to serve in a combined Product Owner and Scrum Master role, partnering closely with the Government Product Owner and supporting the Scrum team in an Agile development environment. This role bridges stakeholder and mission needs with requirements definition, backlog prioritization, and iterative engineering delivery. You will help ensure increment and sprint priorities are clear, backlog items are actionable, and team deliverables remain aligned with mission objectives. You will also facilitate Agile team ceremonies, help identify and remove blockers, manage dependencies and competing priorities, and support the team in delivering committed work while promoting collaboration and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary liaison between mission partners, stakeholders, and the Scrum team - ensuring priorities, needs and expected outcomes are clearly understood and consistently communicated.
- Own and continuously refine the Product Backlog - maintaining well-structured user stories, acceptance criteria, dependencies, risks, and priorities to support the mission objectives.
- Translate mission and technical requirements into clear, actionable backlog items - aligned with Agile best practices and team’s capacity.
- Partner closely with developers, testers, and stakeholders - to deliver high value capabilities that meet operational needs and strengthen mission outcomes.
- Facilitate Scrum/Agile ceremonies - including Sprint Planning,
- Daily Stand-Ups, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Support the team by identifying and removing impediments – managing cross-team dependencies, and escalating risks or issues when required to maintain flow and predictability.
- Balance stakeholder priorities, team capacity, technical constraints, and external dependencies - to maximize value delivered each sprint and increment.
- Protect committed sprint work - by helping manage unplanned requests and ensuring all priority changes are assessed and incorporated in a controlled, transparent manner.
- Provide timely feedback on demonstrations, prototypes, and completed work – ensuring alignment to acceptance criteria and readiness for deployments.
- Promote team accountability, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Track delivery progress, risks, and dependencies and communicate status and impacts to stakeholders.
- Define success criteria and evaluate delivered outcomes against mission and user expectations.
What you will Need:
- 5+ years of experience as a product owner, scrum master, requirements analyst or related Agile delivery role
- 2+ years experience with product and / or requirements management, including translating high level stakeholder needs or mission needs into prioritized product features, user stories, and actionable backlog items.
- 2+ years experience managing and prioritizing product backlogs, balancing stakeholder priorities, dependencies, team capacity, and delivery objectives.
- Familiarity with AWS Cloud, DevSecOps Principles and/or software development and automation practices.
- 2+ years experience with Agile lifecycle and collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Gitlab or Azure DevOps
- 2+ years experience working in complex, cross-functional environments with multiple stakeholders, dependencies, and competing priorities.
Bonus Points if you have:
- Experience working on government or military mission critical programs
- Familiarity with technical concepts such as APIs, data flows, and system integration
- Agile Certifications (CSM, PSM, CSPO, SAFe POPM, or equivalent Agile certification preferred)
- Experience supporting DevSecOps or cloud-native development environments
Security Clearence:
- Must have an active TS security clearance; active TS/SCI preferred

The base pay range for this position in these locations is shown below.
