Product Specialist – Sales Engineering
Description
Job Description
Product Specialist – Sales Engineering (North America)
Are you a scientist who loves technology, research and helping others solve complex problems? Do you want to apply your scientific expertise beyond the lab, helping researchers in academia and industry find the right solution for their work?
iMotions is a biometric research software company that lets human behavior researchers integrate a variety of neuroscience-based channels, such as eye tracking, facial expressions, EEG, GSR, ECG, EMG and fNIRS, into one synchronized platform. Founded in Copenhagen in 2005 and part of the Smart Eye Group, iMotions works with leading universities, research institutions and commercial organizations worldwide. We are growing in North America and looking for a Product Specialist with a sales engineering focus, based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
As a Product Specialist, you will be the scientific and technical expert in our sales process. You will turn prospects’ research questions into practical iMotions solutions and show them, through tailored demos and consultation, how our platform supports their work. This is a unique, hybrid role that combines scientific research, technology, education and business.
The Role
Reporting directly to the iMotions North America VP of Sales in Boston, this role balances deep scientific expertise with a strong commercial mindset. You will partner with Account Executives from first conversation to close, owning the technical and scientific side of each opportunity. You will also work closely with Marketing, Customer Success and Product Management.
A key part of this role is moving easily between scientific and commercial conversations. You will be as comfortable discussing experimental controls and signal quality with a university professor as you are showing a corporate UX, marketing or innovation team how biometric data answers their business questions.
Responsibilities
- Product & Research Expertise: Develop comprehensive expertise in the iMotions research platforms, the biosensor technologies they integrate, and our hardware solutions.
- Scientific Sales Engineering: Partner with Account Executives to understand prospects’ research goals, methodological requirements and technical constraints, and act as the technical lead on opportunities through to close.
- Tailored Demonstrations: Design and deliver software and hardware demos, virtually and in person, showing how iMotions supports each prospect’s specific research application.
- Solution Design & Feasibility: Assess the technical feasibility of proposed studies and recommend the right configuration of software, sensors and workflows. Support technical questions in proposals, quotes and grant applications.
- Dual-Sector Consultation:
- Academic: Advise researchers on experimental design, biosensor selection, multimodal data collection, synchronization and analysis for peer-review-ready studies.
- Commercial: Help corporate teams (UX, marketing, pharma, automotive, human factors) apply biometric data to business challenges.
- Client Education & Handover: Deliver training, workshops and iMotions Academies, and work with Customer Success so new clients are set up for success after purchase.
- Applied Research & Product Feedback: Run technical tests, validation and proof-of-concept studies on new hardware integrations, features and applications. Turn prospect and client feedback into product improvement opportunities for Product Management.
- Scientific Thought Leadership: Represent iMotions at conferences, academic events and workshops, and create credible content such as webinars, articles, whitepapers and sample studies with Marketing.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Education: Master’s degree or PhD in neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, cognitive science, physiology, human factors, computer science or a related field.
- Domain Expertise: Hands-on research experience in experimental design, data collection, analysis and interpretation, plus familiarity with one or more measurement technologies such as eye tracking, EEG, ECG, EMG, EDA/GSR, facial expression analysis, fNIRS or motion capture. Multimodal research experience is a plus.
- Sales Engineering Mindset: Interest in a client-facing, commercial role. Experience in sales engineering, technical sales or scientific consultation is preferred but not required.
- Communication & Versatility: Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to specialists and non-specialists and to adapt your approach for academic and commercial audiences.
- Technical Skills (preferred): Signal processing, time-series or statistical analysis; Python, R or MATLAB; and familiarity with APIs, SDKs or Lab Streaming Layer (LSL).
- iMotions Experience: Prior experience with iMotions is preferred.
- Adaptability: A proactive, self-starter mentality, able to manage multiple opportunities, learn new technologies quickly and troubleshoot complex research workflows.
- Travel: Willingness to travel within North America and internationally as needed, about 10–20% of the time.
- Work Authorization: Candidates must currently be located in the United States. Visa sponsorship may be considered for candidates already in the US.
