Production Engineer - Carbody
Responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling production activities to achieve the required quality, quantity, delivery, productivity, and cost targets. The Production Engineer shall ensure efficient utilization of manpower, machines, materials, tools, and processes while maintaining compliance with applicable quality, safety, and production procedures.
Key Responsibilities and Authority:
A. Production Planning & Control
Plan and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production activities as per the production schedule.
- Ensure achievement of production targets within specified timelines.
- Coordinate with Planning, Quality, Stores, Maintenance, Purchase, and other functions for smooth production.
- Monitor production progress and identify bottlenecks affecting delivery.
- Prepare and maintain production reports, MIS, and productivity records.
B. Process & Productivity Improvement
- Monitor manufacturing processes and improve production efficiency.
- Identify process bottlenecks, delays, rework, and productivity losses.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement activities.
- Optimize manpower, machine utilization, material consumption, and cycle time.
C. Quality Control
- Ensure production is carried out as per approved drawings, specifications, work instructions, SOPs, and process parameters.
- Coordinate with Quality for inspection and resolution of quality issues.
- Control rejection, rework, and process deviations.
- Ensure proper identification and traceability of components/assemblies during production.
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for production-related nonconformities.
- Ensure heat correction and other special processes are performed as per approved procedures.
D. Manpower Management
- Allocate manpower according to production requirements and skill levels.
- Monitor operator/welder/fitter performance and productivity.
- Identify training and skill-development requirements.
- Ensure discipline and adherence to standard work practices.
G. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable EHS and safety requirements.
- Promote safe working practices and proper use of PPE.
- Participate in safety inspections, toolbox talks, and emergency/mock-drill activities.
- Report unsafe conditions and initiate corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable ISO and organizational procedures.
H. Documentation
- Maintain production records, process monitoring sheets, inspection records, traceability records, and other required documents.
- Ensure production documentation is completed accurately and on time.
- Support internal, customer, and certification audits.
- Ensure proper control of revised drawings, procedures, and work instructions.
- Lead a nationally significant railway project with transformative potential.
