Production Support Engineer

Role Summary

We are looking for an Application Support Engineer with strong experience in supporting Java-based applications and integration middleware. The ideal candidate will have hands-on exposure to IBM MQ, Autosys job scheduling, enterprise monitoring tools (preferably Dynatrace), and solid Linux/Unix and SQL skills. Prior experience in banking or financial services is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide L2/L3 support for business-critical Java applications in production and non-production environments.
  • Monitor application health, performance, and availability using Dynatrace or similar APM/monitoring tools.
  • Manage and troubleshoot IBM MQ messaging, including queues, channels, and message flows.
  • Configure, schedule, and maintain Autosys jobs; analyze job failures and ensure timely resolution.
  • Perform root cause analysis for incidents and problems; implement preventive measures and permanent fixes.
  • Work with Linux/Unix systems to perform log analysis, process monitoring, deployment support, and environment checks.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries for data analysis, troubleshooting, and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure smooth application operations and changes.
  • Create and maintain support documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing clear status updates, incident reports, and technical explanations.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Java Application Support:

    • Experience in supporting Java/J2EE applications in production environments.
    • Good understanding of application logs, JVM parameters, and basic performance tuning concepts.
  • IBM MQ:

    • Hands-on experience with IBM MQ configuration and administration.
    • Ability to debug messaging issues and monitor message queues and channels.
  • Autosys Job Scheduling:

    • Experience creating, modifying, and troubleshooting Autosys jobs.
    • Understanding of job dependencies, calendars, and event handling.
  • Monitoring Tools (Preferably Dynatrace):

    • Experience using Dynatrace or similar APM tools (e.g., AppDynamics, New Relic).
    • Ability to interpret dashboards, traces, and alerts to identify performance issues.
  • Linux/Unix:

    • Strong command-line skills (file operations, processes, network commands, shell basics).
    • Experience with log analysis and basic scripting is a plus.
  • SQL:

    • Strong SQL querying skills (joins, aggregations, filters, performance considerations).
    • Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Communication:

    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to interact with business users and technical teams in a clear and professional manner.

Preferred Skills

  • Domain Knowledge:

    • Banking or financial services domain exposure (preferred but not mandatory).
    • Familiarity with payments, core banking, or trading systems is an advantage.
  • Additional Nice-to-Have:

    • Experience with incident management tools (e.g., ServiceNow, JIRA).
    • Knowledge of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management).
    • Basic scripting (Shell, Python, etc.) for automation of routine tasks.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
