Professional Liability Claims Manager
The Professional Liability Claims Manager is responsible for the oversight, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of complex professional liability claims, with a primary focus on Errors & Omissions (E&O) exposures. This position provides technical leadership for teams of claims professionals, ensures compliance with company claim handling standards, and partners with underwriting, actuarial, legal, and senior leadership to effectively manage risk and achieve optimal claim outcomes.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience handling complex E&O matters, strong coverage analysis skills, litigation management expertise, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Job Responsibilities
Claims Management
- Direct the handling of complex and high-exposure professional liability claims, including E&O, miscellaneous professional liability, and related management liability matters.
- Evaluate coverage, liability, damages, and exposure issues in accordance with policy terms and applicable law.
- Establish and maintain accurate claim reserves based on evolving claim facts and exposure analysis.
- Oversee investigation strategies and ensure timely claim resolution.
- Manage litigation involving insured professionals, including monitoring defense counsel performance, litigation strategy, and legal spend.
- Review and approve significant coverage positions, settlement recommendations, and reserve changes within delegated authority.
- Provide guidance regarding complex coverage issues, reservation of rights positions, and coverage determinations.
- Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and other dispute resolution proceedings as necessary.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop claims professionals handling professional liability claims.
- Conduct file reviews to ensure technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company best practices.
- Establish performance expectations and support employee development through coaching and training.
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and retaining high-performing claims talent.
Financial and Operational Management
- Manage claims inventory to achieve operational performance objectives.
- Monitor reserve adequacy and contribute to financial forecasting activities.
- Analyze claim trends and performance metrics and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with company authority guidelines and reporting requirements.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
- Develop productive relationships with insureds, brokers, defense counsel, and internal business partners.
- Provide effective reporting to senior management regarding significant claim activity.
- Partner with underwriting to identify emerging claim trends and loss drivers.
