Summary
Analyzes and resolves identity issues in the VA’s Master Person Index to ensure patient data integrity and safe access to health records across VA systems.
Digital Health Office supports the maintenance, analysis and resolution of identity issues found within the VA Master Person Index (MPI). The analysis and resolution of these issues are directly related to patient care and patient safety. The MPI is the authoritative identity data source for VA, consisting of over 44 million records of Veterans, Service members, employees, and contractors. It provides the access point mechanism for linking information from multiple VA and National databases.
Analyzes patient data, utilizing all verification resources and determining the correct course of action required to resolve duplicate patient EHRS on the MPI into one unique identifier (ICN). Analysis and action taken is documented in internal journal cases. Analyzes, researches and resolves data quality issues/discrepancies/anomalies in patients' EHRs on the MPI and ensures the data integrity of the longitudinal health record is maintained. Options, recommendations, and conclusions are taken into account and given appropriate weights to uncertainties about the data and other variables which impact long range program development and performance. Communicates and responds to facility staff regarding possible verification of identity traits, data quality issues, discrepancies, etc. using various verification resources. This can include possible identity theft cases. Responsible for the data integrity and support of the Master Person Index (MPI) database which is the authoritative source for patients and provides the access point mechanism for linking patients' records from multiple VA healthcare facilities and National databases including DoD, to enable an enterprise-wide view of individual and aggregate patient information. Duties are performed as a team of analysts and responsible for coordination of assignments and deadlines with other team members to ensure the work of the team is accomplished. Work involves isolating and defining issues or conditions, as typically is the case where a number of program efforts or studies must be coordinated and integrated; resolving critical problems in identity management in agency-wide systems or developing new approaches and techniques for use by others. Identifies, analyzes, investigates, verifies and assists in the resolution of EHRs that have been involved in a Catastrophic Edit to patient identity. This involves complex and in-depth analysis to determine the best possible resolution and the provision of assistance to facilitate in restoring the data integrity of the EHR. Analysis and actions taken are documented in internal journal cases. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm Telework: This position may be authorized for ad hoc telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. Ad hoc is defined as occasional, non-recurring telework. Virtual: This position may be authorized for Virtual Work. Virtual Work eligibility is for current VA employees that are already subject to the return to the in-person work mandate in their current position. Definition of Virtual Work: Employee works outside of original hiring duty station at a VA-owned or leased space. Return to Office (RTO): RTO mandates are in effect and selectees will be required to report to in-person work unless they are approved for an exception or an exemption. Any approval for an RTO exception, exemption, or extension will happen after a tentative job offer, but before a final job offer.
