Program Director- Carbon Trading Desk

Role Overview
The Program Director of Carbon Trading Desk is a senior leadership position responsible for building and running the firm's carbon trading capability within the marine fuels sector. The role carries fullend-to-end accountability from deal origination through to compliance surrender, across EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) allowances, FuelEU Maritime compliance solutions, voluntary carbon markets (VCM), and IMO regulatory advisory.
Key Responsibilities
- Own full deal flow from origination through execution, settlement and compliance surrender; oversee trade booking, confirmations, registry transfers and counterparty reconciliation
- Full accountability for desk P&L: daily mark-to-market, month-end attribution, year-end review, and annual desk budget covering headcount, systems and market data costs
- Design and execute EUA hedging programmes using ICE futures, options and FX overlays; maintain hedge effectiveness documentation
- Serve as senior point of contact for ship owners, charterers, operators and bunker traders; provide FUEL EU & EU ETS compliance advisory and grow wallet share through structured carbon solutions
- Define and manage desk risk appetite; conduct daily risk review and escalate breaches to CRO
- Ensure all trading complies with necessary regulations; maintain desk policies and liaise with Legal, Compliance and Finance on new product approvals
- Report to C-suite on desk strategy, pipeline and risk; manage relationships with exchanges (ICE), registry operators and external auditors
