Program Instructor - Volleyball Instructor

Summary

Teach volleyball fundamentals to kids ages 6–12 in a fun, inclusive after-school program, planning drills and games that build coordination and teamwork.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The MacColl YMCA and Pawtucket YMCA in Rhode Island are seeking dynamic, enthusiastic, and engaging Volleyball Instructors to lead volleyball programs for participants ages 6–12 (Youth), with opportunities to expand into future teen and adult programming. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, age-appropriate instruction while creating a positive, safe, and inclusive environment that promotes confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and a passion for teaching the fundamentals of volleyball, including serving, passing, setting, hitting, movement, and game play. Instructors should be able to create engaging practices that develop coordination, communication, teamwork, and a love for the game while ensuring every participant feels supported, challenged, and successful regardless of their skill level.

Essential Functions:

Teaching the skillset, but not limited to:

  •  Movement and coordination
  •  Underhand serving
  •  Passing
  •  Catch-and-volley progressions
  •  Basic setting
  •  Fun games and teamwork

  •  Create a positive and engaging environment that encourages participation, confidence, and enjoyment for all participants.
  •  Supervise groups of children and teens, ensuring a safe, structured, and inclusive atmosphere at all times.
  •  Follow all YMCA policies, procedures, and standards, including safety protocols, behavior guidance strategies, and child abuse prevention policies; make ADA accommodations where appropriate.
  •  Plan and deliver sessions that are developmentally appropriate, energetic, and aligned with YMCA values, with a focus on character development, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
  •  Build positive relationships with participants and families by modeling strong communication and leadership skills.
  •  Encourage participants to develop confidence, teamwork, and a love for physical activity through organized play and instruction.
  •  Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding participant progress, program updates, and upcoming events.
  •  Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program events as required.
  •  Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and overall program organization.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned.
