The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), part of DOJ, leads national efforts to reduce violence against women through VAWA. Created in 1995, OVW funds programs addressing domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking, and builds partnerships with law enforcement, courts, advocates, and Tribal entities to support victims and hold offenders accountable.

The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), a component of the U.S. Department of Justice, provides national leadership in developing the nation's capacity to reduce violence against women through the implementation of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and subsequent legislation. The OVW Deputy Director for Tribal Affairs is a statutorily mandated position created by Title IX, Safety for Indian Women within the 2005 reauthorization of VAWA. The Deputy Director for Tribal Affairs, under the guidance of the Director of OVW, holds the authority to collaborate across governments and agencies to implement the Tribal provisions of VAWA and its reauthorizations. The establishment of this position stems from the longstanding policy of a government-to-government relationship between Indian Tribes and the United States. This position serves as the leader of OVW's Tribal Affairs Division and advises the Director concerning policies, legislation, implementation of laws, and other issues relating to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and sex trafficking (VAWA crimes) in Indian Country. In this role, the incumbent provides leadership in establishing and maintaining effective management processes and performs a variety of policy and program development activities in collaboration with the Director, Principal Deputy Director, Deputy Director Grants Development and Management Division, and Legal Counsel Division. The GS-0340-15 Program Manager of OVW's Tribal Affairs Division will perform duties such as: Collaborating with unit leadership on programs and policy initiatives; Maintaining regular contact with Tribes and Tribal organizations nationwide; AND Providing authoritative guidance on agency-wide Tribal programs.
