Program Manager - SOF RACER

Summary

Run a fast-moving defense consortium that sources commercial tech and delivers it to special-operations forces in weeks, coordinating problem curation, company onboarding, and competitions with USSOCOM and partners.

Run the Machine Changing Defense Consortia

This month, USSOCOM launched SOF RACER — a new consortium that is free for the companies in it, pays its operators only to perform, and exists to move commercial technology to SOF operators in weeks instead of years. BMNT runs the human engine of that consortium: finding the companies, framing the problems, and preparing first-time defense vendors to compete and win. We need the person who runs it day to day.

You’ll be the working-level face of BMNT to USSOCOM, the engine-room chief for five (soon twelve) technology areas, and the reason a founder in Silicon Valley, Austin, or Boston puts hardware in an operator’s hands.

The program is funded, the clock is running, and the first competitions are coming. We’re not looking for someone to manage this program. We’re looking for someone to make it undeniable.

What you’ll actually do:

  • Own BMNT’s execution across the consortium’s active Areas of Interest. Today, that’s battlespace awareness and autonomy; communications and cyber; precision effects; human-machine integration; and power and energy. There are at least seven more coming from seabed to space.
  • Run the operating rhythm: problem-curation sprints with USSOCOM stakeholders, company sourcing and onboarding pipelines, education sessions that turn first-timers into credible competitors, and the events where it all becomes visible.
  • Work hand-in-glove with our prime partner GovSignals and a BMNT bench spanning problem curation, technical vetting, and the Defense Investor Network and Deep Tech Connect community.
  • Deliver the written goods on time, every time: plans, quarterly metrics, program reports. The customer should never be waiting on us.
  • Be present. Based in the DC area, but regular time in Tampa. This program is won in rooms, not inboxes.

Who thrives in this seat:

  • You’ve run programs where the government was the customer and speed was the product: OT, consortium, accelerator, or rapid-fielding experience. If you have SOF-community familiarity, even better.
  • You can talk to a special operator at 0900 and a seed-stage founder at 1400 and be credible in both rooms — and you genuinely like both rooms.
  • You treat metrics as a promise, not paperwork. A slipping clock keeps you up; a beaten one makes your week.
  • You’re organized enough to run fifteen threads and honest enough to flag the one that’s slipping before anyone asks.
  • Clearance: minimum active Secret, TS-SCI preferred.

Why BMNT

We’re the ~40-person Silicon Valley company that has spent a decade proving commercial innovation methods work in national security: our methods trace to the Army’s Rapid Equipping Force (which our founder led), we run the DIU-funded Hacking for Defense program across 60+ universities, and our pipelines have moved real technology — ocean sensors, photonic navigation, edge AI — into operational hands. We just helped end the consortium-fee model that taxed the defense industrial base for two decades. This role is where that argument gets proven. Small company, no layers, national mission, your fingerprints on all of it.
