Program Specialist (National Saw Program Manager)
Summary
Manages a national saw training and certification program, coordinates safety reviews, and oversees agency-wide saw operations for the U.S. Forest Service.
This position serves as a national leader, advisor, and consultant for issues concerning the NFS Saw Program. Performs a wide variety of activities in managing, planning, coordinating and implementing a comprehensive, consistent national training, evaluation, and certification program for the use of chain saws and crosscut saws. Coordinate and assist in review and analysis of saw-related accidents and near misses.
Responsible for maintaining a list of Region/Station/Area Saw Program Managers and Nationally Recognized Sawyer Training (NRST) Courses.
Manage a comprehensive, agency-wide saw operations program encompassing education and training, accident investigation and risk management, public safety, contractor safety, and wildland and prescribed fire activity,.
Manage and oversee programs to prioritize work, develop policies, ensure coordination with other branches, and meet timelines to ensure seamless, uninterrupted service and understand and meet customer needs.
Recognize hazards and achieving compliance with regulatory provisions and effectively communicating saw operation practices and procedures to staff and line personnel.
