Job Summary
The Project Buyer is responsible for managing end-to-end material procurement across Continuous Improvement Projects (CIP), Customer Specific Requirements (CSR), and New Product Introduction (NPI). This role focuses on optimizing the 6Rs of Logistics (Right Material, Price, Quality, Time, Place, and Conditions) by securing the most competitive costs, minimizing lead times, and ensuring strict On-Time Delivery (OTD) and quality standards. Working closely with R&D, Production Planning, Finance, and Quality teams, the Project Buyer manages vendor performance, executes purchase orders in SAP, and leads global sourcing initiatives to support seamless supply chain operations and achieve strategic cost targets.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Sourcing & Project Procurement (CIP / CSR / NPI)
Manage material requirements and issue Purchase Orders (POs) / Call-Offs in SAP according to project demand.
Collaborate closely with local Production Planning teams to ensure alignment on material readiness.
Request, evaluate, and analyze supplier quotations swiftly to support fast-lane project timelines.
Process Intercompany Purchase Orders (ICPO) and resolve price variance discrepancies on invoices against POs.
Supplier Quality & Performance Management
Proactively drive supply chain quality improvements in coordination with R&D, Product Groups, Material Management, and Finance.
Maintain accurate SCM master data in systems, including vendor records, contracts, warehouse parameters, and Incoming Quality Control (IQC) settings.
Monitor supplier performance metrics, conduct regular assessments, and establish corrective action plans for issues such as delivery delays (OTD) or quality gaps.
Identify, qualify, and onboard alternative suppliers when existing sources fail to meet performance standards.
Operational Governance & Accountability
Execute daily material purchasing operations while maintaining optimal inventory levels and material flows.
Ensure relevant supplier agreements (e.g., NDAs, General Purchase Terms) are executed and enforced.
Achieve defined cost-saving targets and continuously work to reduce total procurement lead times.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of global sourcing experience, with strong expertise and market knowledge in Asian supply networks.
Experience in semiconductor/electronics.
Proven experience with SAP/R3 ERP systems.
- Solid background in supplier qualification, auditing, and corrective action methodologies.
