Project Controls Analyst - SAP

Salary: AUD 700 - 900 per day, Bonus

About the Role:

Our client is a leading telecommunications organisation seeking a Project Controls Analyst to support the successful delivery of complex technology and network projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and Delivery Leaders, you will be responsible for monitoring project performance, controlling costs, forecasting financial outcomes, and tracking progress against key milestones and contractual commitments.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, providing accurate reporting and actionable insights to support decision-making across project, commercial, and delivery teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong project controls, cost management, financial analysis, and reporting experience, coupled with advanced SAP and Excel capabilities.

Key Accountabilities

• Monitor project costs, procurement activities, budgets, forecasts, and financial performance against approved baselines.
• Track project progress against milestones, delivery schedules, and invoicing requirements.
• Analyse project cost variances and proactively identify risks, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
• Maintain and update project financial data, purchase orders, and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) within SAP.
• Align project delivery progress with financial reporting to support accurate forecasting and revenue recognition.
• Prepare project dashboards, reports, forecasts, and management reporting using Excel and Power BI.
• Develop cost-to-complete forecasts and provide financial modelling support for project decision-making.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Customer Delivery Managers, Procurement, Finance, and Accounts Payable teams to resolve project issues and ensure financial accuracy.
• Provide regular project performance reporting and recommendations to stakeholders.

Key Capabilities

• Strong project cost control, forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis experience.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyse and interpret large data sets.
• Experience using SAP, particularly Project Systems (PS) and Controlling (CO) modules.
• Proficiency in Power BI or other reporting and data visualisation tools.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication capabilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience within Project Controls, PMO, Project Cost Control, Financial Analysis, or Project Reporting roles.
• Previous experience supporting telecommunications, technology, infrastructure, engineering, or project delivery environments.
• Strong understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, procurement, and financial reporting processes.
• Experience supporting project managers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Proven ability to translate complex financial and operational data into meaningful business insights.
