About Detroit Recovery Project

Detroit Recovery Project (DRP) is committed to supporting individuals affected by substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions through integrated, recovery-oriented services. Our approach recognizes that sustainable recovery includes access to healthcare, behavioral health treatment, family and recovery support, education, employment, and community resources.

DRP is seeking a motivated, organized, and results-driven Project Director to lead the implementation and ongoing management of an opioid treatment grant focused on expanding access to medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), improving treatment retention, and connecting participants to comprehensive healthcare and recovery services.

Position Summary

The Project Director is responsible for the overall implementation, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of the opioid treatment grant. This position ensures that grant activities, staffing, service delivery, performance measures, documentation, and reporting align with approved grant requirements, organizational priorities, and applicable regulations.

The Project Director will oversee program operations and coordinate the work of Nurse Practitioners, Recovery Coaches, therapists, peer specialists, and other participating team members to support accessible, evidence-based, person-centered care. The role requires strong project management, staff leadership, data analysis, fiscal oversight, and cross-functional collaboration.

The Project Director will monitor progress toward grant objectives, including timely access to MOUD, participant engagement and retention, long-acting injectable treatment goals, mobile medical outreach, preventive healthcare, and connections to ongoing medical and recovery support services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and day-to-day coordination of grant activities in accordance with the approved work plan, budget, timeline, and contractual requirements.

  • Translate grant objectives into actionable work plans, staff responsibilities, deliverables, and measurable performance targets.

  • Establish and maintain processes to monitor program progress, identify barriers, address operational gaps, and keep activities on schedule.

  • Ensure that program services and activities align with the grant’s goals for MOUD access, treatment retention, overdose prevention, integrated healthcare, and recovery support.

  • Coordinate program operations across clinical, behavioral health, peer recovery, administrative, and community-based service teams.

  • Develop and maintain procedures, workflows, and internal communication practices that support consistent, efficient, and compliant service delivery.

  • Identify implementation challenges and develop corrective action plans in collaboration with leadership and relevant staff.

  • Coordinate with the Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director to support implementation of the grant’s clinical service model, while respecting licensed providers’ independent clinical judgment and scope of practice.

  • Monitor program capacity and processes for providing same-day MOUD induction when clinically appropriate and feasible.

  • Ensure that program workflows support required opioid use disorder screening, MAPS review before buprenorphine prescribing as required by law, appropriate medication management, and referrals for participants who prefer methadone treatment.

  • Support coordination of available MOUD options, including buprenorphine, Vivitrol, Sublocade, and Brixadi, as directed by qualified clinical providers.

  • Facilitate collaboration among Nurse Practitioners, therapists, Recovery Coaches, peer specialists, and other team members to promote continuity of care and participant engagement.

  • Monitor processes for reviewing drug screening results and responding to repeated opioid-positive results through appropriate additional services, treatment options, and higher levels of care when clinically indicated.

  • Support the grant objective of transitioning at least 50% of participants retained in treatment for 90 days to long-acting injectable MOUD, subject to clinical appropriateness, provider judgment, and informed participant choice.

  • Coordinate with clinical leadership to address service delivery barriers, treatment retention concerns, and opportunities to improve participant outcomes.

  • Provide direct oversight, guidance, and performance management for assigned grant personnel, including Nurse Practitioners and Recovery Coaches, as applicable to the organizational structure.

  • Establish clear expectations, responsibilities, performance measures, and reporting requirements for program staff.

  • Monitor staff productivity, service delivery, documentation, participant engagement, and progress toward individual and program goals.

  • Conduct regular team meetings, individual check-ins, and performance reviews to address progress, challenges, training needs, and accountability.

  • Identify professional development needs and coordinate training related to MOUD, overdose prevention, recovery-oriented care, grant compliance, documentation, and service delivery.

  • Promote collaboration, effective communication, and a respectful, participant-centered team culture.

  • Address staffing gaps, workflow concerns, and performance issues promptly and in accordance with organizational policies.

  • Coordinate with Human Resources and senior leadership on recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and staffing needs as appropriate.

  • Oversee implementation of mobile medical outreach in collaboration with clinical staff, therapists, and peer specialists.

  • Ensure that outreach strategies address barriers to healthcare access among individuals experiencing homelessness and those in areas with limited transportation.

  • Coordinate outreach schedules, service delivery expectations, community engagement, and follow-up procedures.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, treatment providers, healthcare partners, and referral sources.

  • Support referral pathways for methadone treatment, primary care, infectious disease services, behavioral healthcare, and other needed resources.

  • Monitor outreach activities and results to identify service gaps and opportunities to expand participant access and engagement.

  • Coordinate program processes that support infectious disease screening, testing, and treatment, as well as access to PrEP for eligible participants.

  • Monitor coordination of recommended vaccinations, including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, COVID-19, pneumonia, and influenza vaccines, in accordance with clinical guidance and program protocols.

  • Ensure workflows support connections to ongoing primary care and tobacco cessation services for participants who are interested.

  • Monitor implementation of naloxone distribution and overdose prevention education for participants, including education about emerging synthetic opioids.

  • Promote coordination among medical providers, behavioral health professionals, and recovery support staff to address participants’ comprehensive needs.

  • Support participant-centered service planning that recognizes barriers related to housing, transportation, access to healthcare, and social determinants of health.

  • Ensure grant activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local requirements, funding conditions, organizational policies, and approved program protocols.

  • Oversee collection, review, and submission of required grant data, performance reports, deliverables, and other documentation.

  • Establish procedures to ensure that services are accurately documented in the electronic health record (EHR) and captured for grant reporting and performance measurement.

  • Monitor documentation timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and compliance across assigned staff and program activities.

  • Track grant milestones, deliverable deadlines, reporting requirements, and required supporting documentation.

  • Identify compliance risks, data discrepancies, or performance gaps and coordinate corrective action with appropriate staff and leadership.

  • Maintain organized program records and support internal reviews, audits, monitoring visits, and funder inquiries.

  • Communicate grant status, achievements, risks, and operational needs to senior leadership in a timely manner.

  • Monitor grant expenditures in coordination with Finance and organizational leadership to support alignment with the approved grant budget.

  • Track staffing, supplies, outreach, training, and other program resource needs.

  • Review spending trends, identify potential budget variances, and communicate anticipated needs or risks.

  • Ensure program resources are used appropriately and in accordance with grant restrictions and organizational procedures.

  • Support budget planning, expenditure forecasting, and documentation required for grant reporting.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards, trackers, and reporting processes to monitor program performance.

  • Analyze service delivery, participant engagement, retention, clinical access, referrals, and other grant measures to assess progress toward objectives.

  • Lead regular reviews of program performance and develop action plans when targets are not being met.

  • Evaluate workflows and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, improve participant experience, strengthen documentation, and support sustainable outcomes.

  • Use data and feedback from participants, staff, clinical leadership, and community partners to inform program improvements.

  • Ensure performance improvement efforts remain consistent with clinical standards, participant needs, and grant requirements.
