Project Engineer – Security Systems
Summary
Project Engineer responsible for engineering, integrating, and delivering electronic security systems (CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, VMS) in critical infrastructure environments, covering design documentation, system integration, testing/commissioning, and stakeholder coordination.
About the role
As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering, integration and delivery of electronic security systems within critical infrastructure environments. You will ensure that project solutions are technically compliant, fully integrated and delivered in accordance with client requirements, applicable standards and project schedules. The role combines detailed engineering design, technical coordination, stakeholder engagement and hands-on commissioning activities.
Key responsibilities
Engineering & Design
Review project specifications, design criteria and contractual requirements.
Develop detailed engineering documentation including security system architecture diagrams, CCTV layouts and coverage plans, Access control and alarms system designs, Functional descriptions, Interface control documents, Equipment schedules, and As-built documentation.
Produce camera coverage studies, storage calculations and network bandwidth assessments.
Design and integrate CCTV systems, Electronic Access Control and Alarm Systems (EACAS), Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS), and Video Management Systems (VMS).
Ensure compliance with project requirements and standards, as well as cybersecurity principles.
System Integration
Support integration activities between CCTV platforms, Access control systems, Intrusion detection systems, SCADA environments, and Telecommunications networks.
Coordinate technical interfaces between security and communications systems.
Review vendor documentation, interface requirements and system performance criteria.
Participate in design reviews, workshops and technical assurance processes.
Project Delivery
Support the delivery of projects from detailed design through testing and commissioning.
Collaborate with Project Manager and Design Manager to manage engineering deliverables, schedules and technical risks.
Assist with procurement activities including equipment selection and technical evaluations.
Review installation methodologies and support commissioning teams during implementation.
Manage engineering change requests, non-conformances and technical queries.
Testing & Commissioning
Develop and review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures, Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures, and Test reports.
Support equipment configuration and pre-deployment testing.
Participate in integrated system testing and commissioning activities.
Verify end-to-end functionality across security systems.
Stakeholder Engagement
Coordinate with clients, technology vendors, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
Participate in project meetings, technical workshops and design reviews.
Provide professional technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
Assist in resolving technical issues and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
About you
Experience delivering security projects.
Strong understanding of CCTV, Access Control and/or Intrusion Detection technologies.
Knowledge of system integration architectures.
Experience producing engineering and testing documentation.
Ability to interpret technical drawings.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities within fast-paced project environments.
A collaborative and professional approach to stakeholder engagement.
Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
Minimum 2 years' experience in security solutions, systems integration or critical infrastructure projects.
Security Licence (or eligibility to obtain one).
Ability to travel to project sites as required.
