About the Role

Spyder Construction is looking for a Project Engineer to work directly alongside a Project Director, taking on the estimating, administrative, and technical support work that keeps high-value projects accurate and moving without gaps. This is not a rotating junior role and it is not a stepping stone to Project Director. It is a dedicated, long-term position built around precision, documentation, and becoming the person a Project Director can hand a scope to without having to check it twice.

What You Will Own

  • Set up and maintain job folders, subcontractor quote folders, and plan sets so every project has a clean, accurate, and fully documented record from day one
  • Build CSIs from estimates and keep budget worksheets, billing requests, and change order drafts accurate and current
  • Draft proposals to a near final state, including grammar, layout, inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions, so review is a final check rather than a rework
  • Manage new job intake, communication plans, and production setup, keeping every project system, including Project Mark, accurate and up to date
  • As the role matures, review scope on fires, floods, and capital improvement projects, take detailed field notes and measurements, and build out sub lists and bid forms for review

What You Bring

Must-haves:

  • General construction knowledge, including the ability to read plans and analyze scope in detail
  • Sharp attention to detail. Scope letters, CSIs, and proposals need to be right the first time, with no gaps
  • Strong organizational systems and the discipline to track multiple active projects without letting anything slip
  • Sound judgment on what is genuinely urgent versus what can wait, especially around bid deadlines
  • A methodical learner who retains direction the first time it is given and applies it consistently going forward

Nice-to-haves:

  • Prior exposure to Xactimate or similar estimating software
  • Experience with construction project management systems

This role rewards someone who does their best work heads down, researching a scope until it is airtight and building a system nobody has to double-check. It is not built around constant client contact, fast-paced pitching, or high-energy relationship building. If that is what energizes you, you will likely find this role too quiet. If you would rather get the details exactly right than talk to ten people about it, this is worth a serious look.

The Work Itself

This is a full-time, in-office position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. As you grow into the role, you will spend some time out of the office reviewing scope on active job sites alongside your Project Director, so a willingness to step away from the desk when the work calls for it matters. Most of the role is desk-based analysis, documentation, and systems work.

Why Spyder

Spyder Construction serves commercial properties, multifamily buildings, and HOA communities across insurance restoration, reconstruction, and roofing. This role is where Own the Outcome shows up in the details: a scope letter with no gaps, a proposal that needs no rework, a system that stays accurate because someone owns it. Deliver Consistently is built into the standard here. Documentation is right every time, whether or not anyone is checking. Trust here is earned through accuracy, not through charm, and that trust is how Forge Real Relationships shows up in this role. Stay Gritty Keep Growing is the whole arc of this position. It is designed to take you from careful observation and note taking to independently owning the technical side of a bid over the course of a year.

Compensation & Benefits

PAY RANGE: $90k to $125k per year

Spyder offers company paid life insurance and a steady, predictable path forward, alongside health, dental, and vision insurance and a 401(k) with a 4% company match. You also get paid time off and sick leave, optional accident and critical illness coverage, and access to an employee assistance program.

What Happens Next

After you apply, you will receive a short survey by email. It only takes a few minutes and is the first step in our process.

Equal Opportunity

Spyder Construction is an equal opportunity employer. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
