ABOUT THE ROLE

Volkswagen Group Africa is seeking a Project Engineer in Logistics department to plan and deliver material handling, transport, packaging and logistics solutions that optimise material flow. The role supports Production, P&A, Localisation and Export projects, logistics contracts and divisional cost control. This position is based in the Logistics Department (Kariega)

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Implement logistics requirements for new projects, production requests, divisional upgrades and approved improvement initiatives
  • Prepare production and warehouse concepts, layouts, drawings and material handling solutions
  • Develop packaging specifications for local, export, and CKD parts
  • Manage projects, suppliers, contracts, timelines and BNK, SGK, CAPEX and SEK budgets
  • Prepare enquiry requests, tenders, appropriations, and purchase requisitions
  • Coordinate acceptance, testing, and handover of logistics equipment and facilities
  • Develop and maintain logistics material handling contracts
  • Liaise with internal departments and external contractors

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing Management or Procurement Management

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in logistics processes within an automotive manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Engineer in Logistics Planning or a similar environment, with 2 years’ Project Management experience

Technical & Behavioral Competencies:

  • Strong analytical, planning, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) and MS Office; advanced MS Excel skills will be advantageous
  • Knowledge of material handling, packaging and BNK, SGK, CAPEX and SEK costing principles
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of working independently
  • German language proficiency will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of VWSA procedures and systems to analyze, plan, develop, implement and maintain various contracts will an added advantage
