The Project Finance Analyst is responsible for supporting the financial management, reporting, forecasting, and analysis of assigned projects throughout the project lifecycle. This role partners closely with Project Managers, Project Controls, Accounting, Treasury, and Tax to ensure accurate project financial records, timely forecasts, effective cash management, contract compliance, and clear financial insights that support project execution and business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Support the financial management of assigned projects across the full project lifecycle, including project setup, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, billing, cash flow tracking, and closeout.
- Partner with Project Managers and Project Controls to monitor project performance, analyze cost trends, evaluate risks and opportunities, and provide timely financial insights to support decision-making.
- Review contract terms to understand billing requirements, payment milestones, revenue recognition considerations, currencies, tax implications, financial instruments, and other project-specific financial obligations.
- Prepare and maintain project forecasts, including gross profit, cost-to-complete, cash flow, receipts and disbursements, and variance analysis against prior forecasts, budgets, and actual results.
- Analyze project financial results and provide commentary on gross margin, forecast changes, project investment balances, receivables, contract capital, and key drivers impacting project profitability.
- Prepare project billings and support collection activities in accordance with contractual terms, working with Project Managers, Treasury, and Accounting to resolve billing or cash collection issues.
- Maintain accurate project financial records, reconcile project sub-ledgers to the general ledger, and ensure financial system data is complete, timely, and aligned with internal controls.
- Coordinate with Treasury and Tax on project-related cash flow, bank guarantees, letters of credit, withholding taxes, duties, tax receipts, and other domestic or international project finance matters.
- Support proposal and contract reviews by evaluating payment terms, pricing, currencies, escalation provisions, financial risk, and revenue recognition considerations.
- Recommend process improvements to strengthen reporting accuracy, forecasting discipline, project controls, and overall financial visibility across assigned projects.
Monthly Close and Reporting Responsibilities
- Prepare assigned projects for monthly close, ensuring project costs, billings, accruals, intercompany activity, foreign exchange adjustments, and bank transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
- Identify, prepare, and support project-related journal entries, including accruals, warranty/client support costs, cost transfers, and other required project adjustments.
- Reconcile project financial reports, sub-ledgers, and trial balance activity to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting policies.
- Prepare monthly reporting packages and financial commentary for assigned projects, including actual-to-forecast variances, gross profit movement, cash flow updates, and risks or opportunities.
- Monitor intercompany balances by project and coordinate with project teams and finance stakeholders to resolve out-of-balance items and ensure matching activity is properly recorded.
- Ensure financial analyses and supporting documentation are uploaded to the appropriate document management systems in accordance with established deadlines and quality standards.
Basic Qualifications:
- Master's/CMA degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field required.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in project finance, project accounting, financial analysis, cost control, contract accounting, or a related finance role.
- Experience supporting project-based businesses, preferably in engineering, technology, energy, petrochemical, construction, EPC, or industrial services environments.
- Strong understanding of project forecasting, cost-to-complete analysis, gross margin analysis, cash flow forecasting, billing, accruals, and revenue recognition concepts.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills with the ability to translate data into actionable business insights.
- Ability to partner effectively with Project Managers, Project Controls, Accounting, Treasury, Tax, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- High degree of professional integrity, sound judgment, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems; experience with JD Edwards, Hyperion, or similar ERP/EPM systems is preferred.
