Project Manager - Airport Terminal Projects

PMA Consultants is hiring a Project Manager to independently lead workstreams on complex terminal and airport capital projects at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) — managing scope, design, construction, budget, schedule, and risk while coordinating airport reps, designers, and contractors as the owner-side interface. Multiple seniority levels available based on experience.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to independently lead assigned workstreams for complex terminal and airport capital projects at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). This role will manage scope, design, construction, budget, schedule, risk, operational requirements, and stakeholder decisions while serving as a key owner-side interface with airport representatives, designers, contractors, and adjacent project teams. The Project Manager will be expected to drive issues to resolution, maintain clear project controls, and keep assigned work aligned with broader operational and program requirements.

Organizational Responsibilities
- Lead assigned project workstreams from planning and design through construction, commissioning, turnover, and closeout.
- Establish and maintain project scope, requirements, responsibilities, interfaces, deliverables, schedules, dependencies, constraints, and key decision dates.
- Lead design and stakeholder coordination, ensuring comments, approvals, decisions, and interfaces among airport representatives, designers, contractors, operational teams, and adjacent projects are resolved.
- Monitor budgets, forecasts, proposed changes, risks, and potential commercial impacts and escalate significant issues as appropriate.
- Coordinate permitting, inspections, approvals, acceptance requirements, and other activities necessary to advance project delivery.
- Evaluate construction phasing, logistics, access, and sequencing with particular attention to airport and airline operational impacts.
- Prepare concise project reporting that communicates status, risks, issues, required decisions, and recommended actions to leadership.
- Coordinate operational readiness and transition activities, punch-list completion, and project closeout.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant project management experience delivering complex aviation, terminal, transportation, or comparable capital projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related technical discipline required.
- Demonstrated owner-representative experience managing the full project lifecycle in an active airport or similarly complex operational environment.
- Advanced ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, risk, project controls, stakeholder requirements, and complex project interfaces independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication, meeting leadership, issue-resolution, and executive-reporting skills.
- Direct SFO or airline project experience preferred.
- Major terminal renovation or expansion experience preferred.
- Experience coordinating airport-led and airline-led project scopes preferred.
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license, CCM, PMP, or other relevant professional certification or credential preferred.
Location and Commitments
- Overtime work may be required occasionally to ensure certain deliverables are completed on time
- Weekend work is rare but occasionally may be necessary
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office environment including the use of stairs.
- Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen.
- Must communicate frequently with other departments and employees both verbally and in writing.
- May need to lift and carry up to 15 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or overhead.
