Project Manager/Construction Manager-Data Center

Summary

Oversee construction of data center facilities, managing scope, budget, schedule, and quality while coordinating contractors, vendors, and internal teams to deliver mission-critical infrastructure projects.

Overview
The Data Center Construction Manager will be responsible for construction project management and oversight of construction-related activities as they relate to new data hall projects or system enhancement or general capital projects. This includes ownership of the project scope, quality, schedule, and budget.Responsibilities as below:

  • Own leadership throughout the construction, working closely with design and project teams to identify project risks, optimize buildability and support cost-effective delivery solutions.
  • Proactively identifying construction, commercial, procurement and contractual risks and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Direct interface with construction general contractors and other vendors during the bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch list phases.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, create construction project scope and requests for proposals.
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors or other vendors and evaluate bids/proposals with detail and accuracy.
  • Perform cost control and financial analysis of construction, regular site inspections to evaluate VOWD and certify payments.
  • Manage construction projects for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of the data center facilities.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to conduct constructability reviews of MEP designs associated with the construction or optimization of existing data centers.
  • Contract administration and managing construction documents including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing.
  • Ensure construction project quality control and compliance with statutory regulations, SLA requirement and in-house guidelines.
  • Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
  • Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis associated with equipment failures.
  • Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support the overall project delivery.
  • Bachelor’s degree in building services, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management or an equivalent engineering science OR 10+ years relevant overall experience in lieu of degree.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience constructing and managing complex MEP systems in mission-critical environments.
  • 5+ years of general contractor and vendor management work (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution experience.
  • Strong stakeholder management, negotiation and leadership skills.
  • Experience in project or construction management in live data centers or comparable critical infrastructures.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings.
  • Experience in pre-construction procurement process, contract administration in construction phase and post-construction activities for proper project closure.
  • Experience in level 4 & 5 testing and commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and statutory regulations.
  • Knowledge of data center construction sequence and critical equipment.
  • Knowledge of project management and scheduling tools (e.g. MS Project, Primavera P6).
  • Ability to bridge technical, commercial and contractual matters to drive successful project outcomes.
