Summary

A Project Manager to lead the rehabilitation and redevelopment of underground gold operations, requiring expertise in deep underground mining, dewatering systems, rock stabilization, and safety systems upgrades.

Gatesource HR is looking for a Gold Project Manager to lead the rehabilitation and redevelopment of an underground gold operation.

This is a technically demanding, high-risk role involving the restart and upgrade of legacy underground infrastructure while maintaining strict safety and operational continuity. The successful candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in deep underground gold mines, complex dewatering environments, and the stabilization and modernization of aging workings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead rehabilitation and safe operation of underground workings (>100m depth) while maintaining production continuity.
  • Oversee ground control, rock stabilization, ventilation, power, and safety system upgrades.
  • Manage dewatering systems and mitigate geotechnical, flooding, and operational risks.
  • Enforce strict underground safety standards and emergency preparedness.
  • Translate mine strategy into safe production plans that preserve life-of-mine value.
  • Control operating and sustaining capital costs, prioritizing safety-critical investments.
  • Support expansion studies, mine planning, and feasibility evaluations.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain robust risk management systems.
  • Improve mine availability through standardized operating practices and disciplined execution.
  • Leverage digital monitoring and performance data to enhance safety and productivity.
  • Promote ESG-aligned, responsible underground mining practices.


Requirements


  • Documented operational and project leadership experience in underground gold mining, at depths of 100 meters or greater.

  • Proven expertise managing groundwater ingress and high-volume underground dewatering systems.

  • Direct experience rehabilitating old underground mine workings, including legacy shafts, declines, and infrastructure.

  • Strong technical background in rock stabilization, including, shotcrete support, rock bolting installation round control planning

  • Demonstrated ability to upgrade ventilation, power, and safety systems in active underground environments without halting operations.
