Project Manager, Human Spaceflight and Satellites | Chef de projet, vols spatiaux habités et satellites
NewBe an early applicantSummary
Runs European sales campaigns, institutional bids (ESA, national space agencies), and early-stage program execution across human spaceflight and satellites from Vast's Paris office, acting as the interface between European customers and HQ in Long Beach. Requires 5–7 years of aerospace program/bid management and English fluency.
Vast is developing next-generation space stations and space infrastructure using an incremental, hardware-rich, and low-cost approach. Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station to ensure a continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Haven Demo’s 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world’s first commercial space station when it launches in 2027, followed by additional Haven modules. Additionally, the company recently announced Vast Satellite, a high-power satellite product line leveraging its space station components and the heritage of Haven Demo.
Headquartered in Long Beach, California, and with more than 1,000 employees and over a billion dollars in private capital, Vast has built the facilities required to manufacture and operate America’s next space station. The company plans to develop future habitats and systems for the Moon and Mars, dedicated space stations for government partners, and other crewed systems that will unlock the expanding long-term space economy.

Vast is looking for a Project Manager, Human Spaceflight and Satellites to serve in a hands-on program and business development role supporting the capture, bidding, and execution of European sales campaigns and program activities across both human spaceflight and satellite systems. The Project Manager will report to the Director, European Programs and Sales, and work in full coordination with the dedicated USA business development, engineering, and mission management teams, and will act as a key programmatic and technical interface between European customers and partners, and Vast HQ in Long Beach, California, USA.
Vast Europe is a small, nimble team operating close to our customers: space agencies, governments, industrial primes, and private clients across Europe. This is not a narrowly scoped role. You will wear multiple hats by design, moving between proposal management, program execution, technical coordination with HQ, and direct customer engagement, sometimes all in the same week. We consider this breadth a feature of the role, and we are looking for someone who does too.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and management of proposals, offers, and responses to institutional tenders (ESA, national space agencies, and European institutions), as well as commercial opportunities, coordinating inputs from Vast HQ engineering, mission management, legal, and finance teams.
- Provide project management for European sales campaigns and early-stage programs across human spaceflight (e.g., private astronaut missions, Haven-1, Haven-2) and satellite activities, owning schedules, deliverables, milestones, and internal coordination.
- Serve as a programmatic and technical interface between European customers and partners, and Vast HQ teams in Long Beach, translating customer requirements into actionable inputs for engineering and mission management, and vice versa.
- Support customer meetings, technical exchanges, and negotiations with agencies, primes, and commercial customers, acting in a sales engineer capacity where needed, in full coordination with the dedicated USA business development teams.
- Prepare and maintain high-quality presentation materials, technical narratives, and program documentation tailored to European institutional and commercial audiences.
- Track European institutional programs, funding cycles, and procurement opportunities relevant to Vast, and contribute to capture strategy with the Director, European Programs and Sales.
- Deputize for the Director, European Programs and Sales on program and bid matters as delegated, and support the onboarding and development of junior team members.
- Represent Vast at European conferences, industry days, and agency events.
- Support the wider Vast Europe team across adjacent workstreams, including institutional relations and industrial partnership development, as priorities require.
Candidate Profile
A mid-career space program or capture professional with a track record of supporting and winning work with European institutional customers, who is equally comfortable running a bid, coordinating engineers across time zones, and sitting across the table from an agency delegation. The ideal candidate combines strong programmatic discipline with commercial instinct, and thrives with the autonomy and ambiguity of a small office backed by a fast-moving US headquarters.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related technical or business discipline.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in program management, capture and bid management, or customer-facing project management in the space or aerospace industry.
- Direct experience with European institutional customers and procurement processes (ESA, EU and/or national space agencies).
- Experience acting as a primary interface between a company or program and an external customer, at both technical and management levels.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Fluency in English required. Fluency in French will be considered a strong plus. Fluency in other European languages appreciated
- Strong written communication skills in English, including briefs, summaries, and proposal inputs.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency with spreadsheets and presentation tools for analysis and reporting.
- Eligibility to work in France.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Master’s degree in an engineering, science, or business discipline.
- Experience with human spaceflight programs or missions, and familiarity with crewed vehicle providers and launch integration campaigns.
- Experience with a CRM (Salesforce or similar) and research or list-building tools.
- Experience spanning both institutional and commercial space customers.
- Excellent technical and proposal writing skills, including multi-party interface and program documentation.
- Professional proficiency in French; additional European languages are a plus.
- Experience thriving in a startup or small-office environment, comfortable operating independently and as a “one-person team” when needed.
- Strong negotiation, prioritization, and cross-functional coordination skills, with the flexibility to adjust to abrupt changes in strategic direction.
- Passion for the space industry and for changing “business-as-usual” paradigms.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, primarily within Europe.
- Willingness to accommodate meetings across European and US Pacific time zones, and to work occasional evenings or weekends in support of critical mission milestones.
We calibrate level and compensation to the selected candidate's experience and demonstrated capability. We welcome applicants across a range of experience levels to apply.
