Project Manager

Posted Updated
Discussion

The Project Manager plans, coordinates, and drives execution of cross-functional projects based at the Canrig Magnolia manufacturing facility, including new product introduction, equipment build and test, manufacturing process and capacity improvements, and customer-driven or field-support initiatives. Working day to day with Engineering, Operations, Sales, PSC, and the manufacturing plant, this role converts business priorities into integrated schedules, defined scopes, clear owners, and visible milestones. The Project Manager also owns the status reporting that gives leadership a consistent view of project health, cost, and risk.

This role delivers disciplined, repeatable project execution: realistic timelines, early visibility of risk, and closed-loop follow-through across functions. The Project Manager does not hold technical design authority (retained by Engineering), plant production ownership (held by Manufacturing and Operations), or commercial authority (held by Sales); the role owns the plan, the coordination, and the evidence that each project is on track.

Project Planning, Scheduling & Execution

Primary Skills: Project Management • Project Planning • Schedule Management • Resource Coordination • Scope Management

  • Define project scope, deliverables, work breakdown structures, milestones, and critical-path schedules in partnership with project sponsors and functional leads.

  • Drive execution against plan across Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Sales, and PSC; adjust sequencing as constraints change and communicate schedule impacts early.

  • Coordinate materials, plant capacity, labor, test, and equipment availability at the Magnolia facility so commitments are based on confirmed readiness rather than assumed dates.

  • Maintain a single source of truth for project status, dependencies, owners, and due dates that leadership and partner functions can rely on.

  • Run project kickoffs, working sessions, and close-out retrospectives with clear agendas, decisions, and tracked actions.

Manufacturing & Product Delivery Coordination

Primary Skills: Manufacturing Operations Knowledge • Operational Readiness • Quality Management • Supply Chain Coordination • Documentation

  • Coordinate project work with plant leadership, production, supply chain, and quality so build, test, and shipment schedules reflect actual capacity and material availability.

  • Track engineering releases, bills of materials, long-lead procurement, build progress, test and inspection results, and shipment readiness against project milestones.

  • Facilitate handoffs between Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and PSC (for example, design release to build, build to test, and delivery to field support), documenting accountability, open items, and acceptance decisions.

  • Escalate readiness gaps with a clear recommendation, impact assessment, and proposed owner rather than carrying unresolved risk forward.

Risk, Issue & Change Management

Primary Skills: Risk Assessment • Issue Management • Root Cause Analysis • Change Management • Corrective Action Planning

  • Maintain risk, issue, and dependency registers for active projects; assess schedule, safety, quality, cost, and customer impact; and drive mitigations to closure.

  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions for project issues, quality escapes, and repeat problems, coordinating technical input from Engineering, Manufacturing, and PSC.

  • Manage scope, schedule, and cost change through a documented change-control process, including impact analysis and stakeholder approval.

  • Capture lessons learned from every project and track assigned improvements through to completion.

Cross-Functional Coordination & Stakeholder Alignment

Primary Skills: Cross-functional Teamwork • Stakeholder Management • Project Integration • Meeting Facilitation • Relationship Management

  • Serve as the day-to-day coordination point between Engineering, Operations, Sales, PSC, and the manufacturing plant, aligning departmental plans, milestones, and dependencies into one integrated project schedule.

  • Run recurring cross-functional project reviews to assess progress, surface dependencies and conflicts, confirm owners and dates, and track decisions and actions to closure.

  • Partner with Sales and PSC to translate customer requirements, commitments, and field feedback into project scope and priorities, and communicate project status back with accuracy and transparency.

  • Resolve conflicting priorities and resource requests with peers at the working level and escalate those that require leadership decisions.

Status Reporting, Cost Tracking & Executive Communication

Primary Skills: Reporting • Budget & Cost Tracking • Total Cost of Ownership Analysis • Data Visualization • Presentation Development

  • Create and issue recurring status reports on project progress, covering schedule, milestones, budget and cost, risks, issues, decisions needed, and customer impact.

  • Track project budgets, actual spend, and forecasts, and perform total cost of ownership analysis to inform scope, design, make-or-buy, and prioritization decisions.

  • Consolidate inputs from functional leads into consistent, accurate reporting, validating data and resolving discrepancies before it reaches leadership.

  • Develop executive-ready presentations and dashboards for leadership reviews that lead with the message, the risk, and the ask.

  • Maintain a clear reporting cadence and templates so status is predictable, comparable across projects, and available without ad hoc requests.

Process Standardization & Continuous Improvement

Primary Skills: Business Process Documentation • Knowledge Management • Continuous Process Improvement • Lean / Six Sigma • Performance Metrics

  • Develop and maintain project playbooks, checklists, templates, and project artifacts that make project execution repeatable across the facility.

  • Track and report project metrics such as schedule adherence, on-time delivery, budget variance, open action items, and rework.

  • Contribute to continuous-improvement initiatives that reduce rework, shorten lead times, and improve consistency between Engineering, the plant, and field operations.

  • Document lessons learned and standard work so knowledge is retained and shared across project teams.

NON-ESSENTIAL (ADDITIONAL) FUNCTIONS

  • Support customer, sales, and executive reviews by attending, capturing decisions and actions, and following up on commitments.

  • Participate in plant walkthroughs, engineering design reviews, test activities, and field visits as needed to maintain current operational context.

  • Support business cases, budgets, cost tracking, and resource forecasts related to project activities.

  • Perform other project coordination and support activities consistent with the role and business needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing), Business (Business Administration, Operations, or Supply Chain Management), or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

  • 5+ years of project management experience delivering multi-stakeholder technical or operational projects in an industrial, engineering, or manufacturing setting.

  • Related industry experience in manufacturing, energy services, or a comparable engineering- or equipment-driven environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage integrated schedules, budgets, risk registers, and status reporting using standard project tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Primavera, or equivalent).

  • Working knowledge of quality, safety, and HSE requirements in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with peers and technical leads across Engineering, Operations, Sales, and supporting functions without direct authority.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience producing recurring status reports and executive presentations for senior leaders.

  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel; working proficiency with a project-scheduling tool.

  • Ability to work on site at the Magnolia facility, with occasional domestic travel to customer, field, or other company locations as business needs require.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project-management certification.

  • Direct experience in a manufacturing plant environment, including build, assembly, test, quality, or production planning processes.

  • Oil and gas, drilling, or energy services industry experience, ideally with drilling equipment or rig technology products.

  • Experience with engineered-to-order or new product introduction programs, including prototype-to-production transitions.

  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, root-cause analysis, change management, or stage-gate/readiness-gate frameworks.

  • Familiarity with ERP and reporting tools (e.g., Oracle, Power BI, Excel) for tracking cost, resources, and project metrics, including cost tracking and total cost of ownership analysis.
