Project Manager - Plumbing & HVAC
POSITION SUMMARY
Knights Mechanical is seeking an experienced and results-driven Project Manager – Plumbing & HVAC to oversee commercial and industrial mechanical projects from pre-construction through final completion. This role is responsible for managing project execution, financial performance, customer relationships, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, safety compliance, and operational excellence across multiple active projects.
The Project Manager serves as a key leader in driving successful project outcomes while supporting company growth, profitability, customer satisfaction, and team development. This position requires strong technical knowledge of plumbing and HVAC systems, effective communication skills, and the ability to lead projects in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
This is both a strategic and hands-on operational role requiring the ability to manage details while leading teams and maintaining strong client relationships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management & Execution
- Manage commercial and industrial plumbing and HVAC projects from award through closeout.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
- Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and resources to support successful execution.
- Monitor project scope and proactively manage scope changes, risks, delays, and cost impacts.
- Lead project kickoff meetings, progress meetings, and operational reviews.
- Ensure all projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.
- Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, and submittals for accuracy and execution requirements.
- Oversee project documentation including RFIs, change orders, purchase orders, schedules, and closeout documentation.
- Implement labor forecasting and workforce planning, including 30-, 90-, and 120-day labor look-ahead planning.
Financial & Operational Management
- Manage project budgets, forecasting, job costing, billing, and financial reporting.
- Review project profitability and identify opportunities to improve operational performance and margin.
- Approve project-related expenditures in accordance with company authority levels.
- Partner with accounting and operations leadership to support accurate billing, collections, and financial reporting.
- Monitor productivity, labor utilization, and material management to support operational efficiency.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and support field teams, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and project support staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.
- Provide coaching, direction, and leadership to project personnel.
- Support workforce planning, hiring efforts, onboarding, and performance management as needed.
- Promote collaboration across trades, departments, and operating companies to support “One Company” execution.
Customer & Vendor Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and business partners.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Address customer concerns professionally and proactively.
- Support business development efforts, customer retention, and repeat business opportunities.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, OSHA, and company safety requirements.
- Promote and support a strong culture of workplace safety and operational accountability.
- Participate in safety meetings, incident reviews, and corrective action processes as needed.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in commercial plumbing, HVAC, or mechanical construction environments.
- Strong knowledge of commercial mechanical systems, construction processes, and project execution.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and customer relationships.
- Proficiency in project management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and construction management platforms.
- Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in multi-site or multi-state operations.
- Experience with industrial, institutional, healthcare, manufacturing, or large commercial projects.
- OSHA certification or related safety training.
- PMP certification or equivalent project management training preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and navigate active construction and jobsite environments.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, and construction conditions.
- Ability to travel to jobsites and customer locations as needed.
This position operates in both office and active construction/jobsite environments. The role may require occasional evening or weekend work based on project schedules, deadlines, and operational needs.
