Project Manager - SAP (AMS)
Description
Project Manager – SAP Application Management Services (AMS)
Department: Technology ( SAP )
Role Summary
We are looking for a Project Manager with a strong finance and SAP FICO background to lead the delivery of SAP Application Management Services (AMS) for one or more clients. Unlike an implementation role, this position is focused on steady-state support and continuous improvement of live SAP landscapes — owning SLA performance, incident/problem/change management, minor enhancements, and the day-to-day client relationship. The ideal candidate combines delivery-management discipline with hands-on finance-process expertise, enabling them to lead the team, triage complex FI/CO issues, and speak credibly with the client's finance and controlling stakeholders. The successful candidate will run the support engagement as a service, balancing operational stability, cost, and client satisfaction while managing a cross-functional team of functional and technical consultants.
Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery & Operations
• Own end-to-end delivery of the AMS engagement, ensuring all contractual SLAs and KPIs (response time, resolution time, ticket ageing, first-time-right, backlog) are consistently met.
• Govern the incident, problem, service request, and change management processes in line with ITIL, managing ticket queues, prioritization, and escalations.
• Oversee scheduling of routine activities such as month-end/year-end support, batch monitoring, patching, and system health checks.
• Manage the intake, estimation, and delivery of minor enhancements and change requests (CRs) within the AMS scope.
Governance & Reporting
• Conduct regular operational reviews (weekly/monthly) and steering-committee governance meetings with the service provider.
• Produce and present service performance dashboards, SLA reports, root-cause analyses, and continuous service improvement (CSI) plans.
• Track and manage engagement financials — effort, utilization, billing/invoicing inputs, and profitability against budget.
Stakeholder & Team Management
• Act as the single point of contact and trusted advisor for the our business stakeholders, particularly in finance and controlling.
• Manage escalations to resolution and maintain a proactive, transparent communication cadence.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of SAP functional and technical consultants across shifts/time zones; handle resource planning, ramp-up/ramp-down, and knowledge transfer.
• Drive shift-left, automation, and knowledge-management initiatives to reduce recurring incidents and improve efficiency.
Risk & Continuous Improvement
• Identify delivery risks and put mitigation plans in place; ensure business-continuity and knowledge-retention safeguards.
• Champion continuous improvement — reducing ticket volumes, improving automation, and identifying opportunities to expand the engagement.
Required Skills & Experience
• Strong finance domain background — a degree in Finance/Accounting and/or professional accounting experience, combined with deep hands-on knowledge of SAP FICO (GL, AP, AR, Asset Accounting, Cost Center/Profit Center Accounting, and integration with MM/SD). Understanding of financial period-close, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end processes is essential.
• 8–12+ years of overall IT/finance experience, with 5+ years managing SAP AMS / support / managed-services engagements.
• Broad understanding of the SAP application landscape — able to coordinate across functional (MM, SD, PP, etc.) and technical (Basis, ABAP, integration with SAP Concur and SAP Ariba) teams even where the core strength is finance.
• Hands-on experience running ITIL-based service management (incident, problem, change, service request).
• Proven track record managing SLAs, service credits, and contractual commitments in an outsourced/managed-services model.
• Experience with ticketing and monitoring tools such as Zoho Desk, SAP Solution Manager (ChaRM, ITSM),
• Solid command of project/delivery management — planning, estimation, RAID management, financials, and reporting.
• Excellent communication, and escalation-handling skills.
• Experience managing distributed / onshore-offshore teams.
Preferred / Nice to Have
• Certification in SAP Financials
• Certification in SAP Activate methodology.
• Certification in Prince 2 , ITIL etc
Certifications (desirable)
• PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project-management certification.
• ITIL Foundation (v3/v4) or higher.
• SAP FICO / S/4HANA Finance or SAP Activate certification.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field; a professional accounting qualification (CA / CMA / CPA / ACCA) or an MBA in Finance is strongly preferred.
