An outstanding opportunity exists for an Infrastructure Project Manager with deep telecommunications experience to lead large-scale satellite ground station repurposing initiatives. In this role, you will drive the transformation of existing ground infrastructure, teleports, and legacy telecommunications assets to host next-generation Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) and Geostationary (GEO) satellite networks.
You will oversee site retrofits, the installation of Satellite Access Nodes (SANs) and tracking dishes, power upgrades, and the seamless integration of high-speed dark and lit fibre backhaul networks.
About the Role
Role Title: Project Manager - Satellite & Ground Station Infrastructure
Engagement: 12-Month Contract (Initial term, high likelihood of extension)
Location: Flexible / Hybrid (Regional site visits as required)
Key Responsibilities
Site Repurposing & Delivery: Lead the civil, structural, and electrical retrofitting of existing telecommunications sites to host new satellite dishes, radomes, and equipment shelters.
Fibre Backhaul Integration: Partner with internal network engineering teams to integrate newly deployed ground stations directly into terrestrial dark and lit fibre backhaul networks.
Vendor & Subcontractor Management: Manage civil contractors, RF specialists, equipment vendors, and global satellite operator partners throughout the build lifecycle.
End-to-End Governance: Own the project schedule, budget (CapEx), risk matrix, and regulatory compliance (including local council permits and ACMA standards).
Skills & Experience Required
Project Management Experience: Minimum 5+ years delivering large-scale telecommunications or civil network infrastructure projects.
Domain Knowledge: Proven background in fibre infrastructure, wideband, teleports, satellite ground stations, or mobile tower retrofits.
Fibre & Connectivity: Solid understanding of dark/lit fibre backhaul, FttX, SANs, or terrestrial connectivity.
Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to build strong rapport across cross-functional engineering teams, subcontractors, and commercial stakeholders.
Attributes: A consultative, highly adaptable approach with a strong proactive mindset.
Desirable
Project Management certifications (PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile).
Experience executing remote or regional Australian infrastructure rollouts.
The role is location agnostic and as such offers fantastic work from home flexibility. You can work from anywhere in Australia including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Geelong, Newcastle, Gold Coast etc.
