Job Summary
Strategic Management Solutions, LLC is seeking a Project Manager to support our client, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The Project Manager is responsible for providing budgetary, program management, and coordination support for Gas Transfer Systems and the upgrade of the Weapons Engineering Tritium Facility (WETF) to meet anticipated technical requirements and operational capabilities. This position coordinates technical activities, monitors project costs and performance, supports facility improvement planning, and provides routine classified and unclassified management briefings to senior leadership. This position requires working onsite at LANL and an active Q clearance.

The position requires exceptional organizational, analytical, communication, and project management skills, with a proven ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety, security, quality, schedule, and cost performance.
Responsibilities
  • Perform budgetary and program management activities necessary to support Gas Transfer Systems and the ongoing upgrade of the WETF Facility.
  • Develop, maintain, and submit project schedules, cost estimates, budget forecasts, and other required program documentation.
  • Coordinate facility upgrades requirements with personnel requests and anticipated technical and operational needs.
  • Track project and program costs against performance, schedule, and established budgets; identify variances and communicate potential impacts to management.
  • Coordinate the efforts of technical staff and multidisciplinary teams to support timely execution of project and program deliverables.
  • Support fiscal year-end reporting and development of subsequent fiscal year cost estimates and program requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver routine classified and unclassified management briefings, status reports, and presentations.
  • Monitor project milestones, deliverables, resources, and performance to ensure commitments are met.
  • Support planning and execution of facility improvements to enhance technical capabilities and meet future mission requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination among technical personnel and program management.
  • Emphasize and promote safety, security, environmental stewardship, and compliance while accomplishing program objectives.
  • Identify program risks, resource constraints, schedule concerns, and cost issues and provide recommendations to management.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation and records in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Train and mentor designated replacement personnel to ensure continuity of ongoing program management responsibilities and processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational and mission requirements.

Required Skills/ Abilities
  • 20 years of experience supporting LANL in program, project, budget, or technical management.
  • Previous experience supporting LANL’s WETF is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop schedules, cost estimates, forecasts, and program reports.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams and project deliverables.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting established schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated, safety-conscious, and security-focused environment.
  • An active DOE Q clearance is required.

Desired Skills
  • Experience supporting Department of Energy, Department of Defense, nuclear, or other federal programs.
  • Experience with facility upgrades, infrastructure projects, or technical facility operations.
  • Experience with government budgeting, fiscal year reporting, and cost tracking.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management experience.
  • Experience developing and presenting executive-level management briefings.
  • Experience working with classified and unclassified program information.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of 20 years of relevant technical experience.
