Job description

1.0 Purpose

The Project Risk Manager owns the end-to-end management of risks, issues, threats, and opportunities across their project.
By working collaboratively with fellow Risk Managers on the other projects and the PMO Risk Lead the Project Risk Manager will support end-to-end management of risks, issues, threats, and opportunities across the overall client program.
The role will maintain accurate tracking and reporting in Unifier, ensuring timely escalation, protection of contingency and schedule float, and alignment with program governance.
The Project Risk Manager will lead the identification, assessment, and prioritisation of project risks, issues, threats, and opportunities across all phases of the project lifecycle.
The Project Risk Manager will facilitate structured risk and issue identification sessions with cross-functional teams to ensure comprehensive coverage and early visibility.
This role reports to the Project Controls Lead.

2.0 Accountabilities

  • Aligning with and following the Risk Management Plan defined by the PMO Risk Lead to identify, assess, track, and report project risks, issues, and lessons learned in line with program governance and standards.
  • Leading the risk assessment process with the project team to identify, assess, and report risks, issues, and lessons learned across the project lifecycle.
  • Providing regular, structured reporting to the Project Director and PMO Risk Lead on risk exposure, mitigation effectiveness, and emerging trends.
  • Coaching risk owners to build capability in understanding, managing, and effectively mitigating risks.

3.0 Responsibilities

  • Lead the identification, assessment, and prioritization of project risks, issues, and opportunities across all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate structured risk, issue, and opportunity workshops with cross-functional teams to ensure early visibility and comprehensive coverage.
  • Ensure risks and issues are clearly defined, appropriately quantified, and aligned to cost, schedule, safety, quality, and performance impacts.
  • Proactively identify and develop opportunities that improve project cost, schedule, or delivery outcomes.
  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor effective risk and issue mitigation strategies in collaboration with the Project Manager, Project Director, and project team.
  • Validate mitigation actions, owners, and due dates, tracking effectiveness and escalating residual risk where required.
  • Interface with project controls, cost and scheduling teams to ensure risk impacts are reflected in schedule risk analysis, forecasting, and contingency management.
  • Protect project contingency and schedule float through early identification and proactive management of emerging threats.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and governance-compliant risk, issue, opportunity, and lessons-learned data within project systems (e.g., Unifier).
  • Produce clear, actionable risk reporting, dashboards, and trend analysis for project leadership and governance forums.
  • Capture, analyse, and share lessons learned to support continuous improvement and program-level knowledge transfer.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to project leadership, embedding risk-based thinking into decision-making while upholding HSE requirements and client values.

4.0 Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, project management, or related discipline.
  • 7+ years’ experience in risk management or project controls on major capital projects.
  • Strong expertise in qualitative/quantitative risk assessment and mitigation planning.
  • Proficient in Primavera P6, Unifier, and integration of risk with cost and schedule controls.
  • Skilled facilitator of cross-functional risk workshops with clear action ownership.
  • Strong analytical capability to identify trends, systemic risks, and root causes.
  • Experienced in executive risk reporting and governance level dashboards.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Coaching and leadership capability to build risk awareness and capability across project teams.
