Description

About the role

At National Grid, we own and operate the electricity transmission network across England and Wales, playing a vital role in delivering a cleaner, more secure energy future. As we accelerate the transition to Net Zero, we're investing in major infrastructure projects that will connect more renewable and low-carbon energy across the country.

We're looking for a Project Supervisor to join our Infrastructure Delivery team in South West Wales. You will initially support a substation extension project at Pembroke 400kV Substation and then future new build substations, and wider network reinforcement schemes.

Acting as National Grid's representative on site, you'll oversee construction activities delivered by our principal contractors, ensuring works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with National Grid policies, procedures, and quality standards. This is a fantastic opportunity to be directly involved in nationally significant projects that will support the UK's energy transition for decades to come.

The role is ideally suited to candidates based within commuting distance of Pembroke, including areas such as Carmarthen, Cardigan and Haverfordwest, with regular travel required across South West Wales.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Act as National Grid's on-site representative and Engineer's Representative during project delivery.
  • Supervise principal contractors and monitor construction activities across multiple project sites.
  • Ensure contractors proactively discharge their duties under CDM Regulations and maintain the highest safety standards.
  • Conduct regular site safety, quality and environmental inspections, audits and site walks.
  • Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements to ensure activities are undertaken safely and effectively.
  • Monitor project progress against programme and identifying potential delivery risks.
  • Attend and lead coordination meetings with contractors, stakeholders and project teams.
  • Inspect materials and workmanship, ensuring compliance with industry and project specifications.
  • Support commissioning activities and review contractor commissioning programmes.
  • Maintain accurate site records, reports and project documentation.
  • Control site access and promote a strong safety culture throughout project delivery.

What you'll need

We're keen to hear from experienced site-based construction professionals who can bring strong technical knowledge, excellent stakeholder management skills and a proactive approach to safety and quality.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience in project site management, supervision or construction delivery within the utilities, electricity, infrastructure, rail, engineering or civil construction sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations, health and safety legislation and environmental management practices.
  • Experience working within NEC3 or NEC4 contract environments.
  • A sound understanding of project delivery principles, including risk, programme, quality, cost and safety management.
  • Experience reviewing project documentation, contractor programmes and construction methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across multiple parties.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region.

Technical Experience

You should have experience – or ideally be a subject matter expert - in one or more of the following areas:

  • Substation experience including Mechanical & Electrical (M&E)/Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS)/Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS)/HV Cable projects (desirable)/Civil Engineering.

Qualifications

  • SMSTS, IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
  • Full UK driving licence

What's in it for you?

  • A competitive salary between £49,625 to £54,000 pa + Benefits + Company Vehicle
  • 26 days annual leave plus 8 statutory days.
  • The option to buy additional or sell holiday days.
  • Generous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. Overall 18%.
