Psychologist - Associate Chief of Staff for Education

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Associate Chief of Staff for Education (ACOS-E) works under the leadership and direction of the Chief of Staff (COS) at the Tomah VAMC in Tomah, WI. The incumbent provides administrative oversight and actively participates in decisions that support the healthcare system's educational and health professions trainee (HPT) goals. The ACOS-E is the designated VAMC employee who has oversight responsibility for all health professions training at the VAMC. Administrative Duties 25% Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and evaluating the quality of health professions training programs and the quality of care delivered by trainees at the VA facility. Provides direction and oversight of the HPE service and education support for a full spectrum of paid and without compensation (WOC) HPTs and others associated with a complex healthcare system, which includes employees, upper-level facility management, affiliate schools, and HPTs. Provides policy development, analysis, decision making, and implementation activities affecting the VA health care system. Interacts with affiliated institutions as appropriate on matters pertaining to HPT assignment and curricula and on evaluation of the VA medical facility as a training site. Acts as a consultant to other VA medical facility staff on educational matters and interpreting policies according to VA requirements; provides comprehensive support to residency and training program and site directors. Works closely with OAA to expand programs, collect and report data, and obtain guidance for unusual circumstances. Ensures that all VA-sponsored programs maintain accreditation, collaborating with VA program director(s) on reporting, site visits, and making timely payments to match organizations and/or certifying bodies. Clinical Duties 75% Maintains an active clinical psychology practice consistent with professional training, VA standards, and the needs of the Tomah VA Medical Center. Clinical duties are coordinated with Mental Health leadership under the direction of the Chief of Staff. Conducts psychological assessment and diagnostic evaluations, administering and interpreting evidence-based psychological assessments addressing cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning, and providing differential diagnosis using DSM-5-TR criteria. Provides individual and group psychotherapy, delivering evidence-based psychotherapies (e.g., CBT, ACT, DBT-informed interventions, CPT, PE, BA, MI) for a range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, SUD, and serious mental illness. Performs suicide risk assessment and crisis intervention, completing structured suicide risk evaluations, developing collaborative safety plans, and coordinating higher-level care when clinically indicated. Participates in interdisciplinary care, collaborating with psychiatry, nursing, primary care, social work, and other disciplines to support integrated Whole Health treatment planning and care coordination.
