Psychologist - Gender Identity Service
Description
The Gender Identity Service is seeking a part-time, permanent Psychologist to join its specialized outpatient clinic at CAMH's Queen Street site. The service provides assessment, consultation, and follow-up for individuals exploring their gender identity or seeking gender-affirming care. This includes support related to social transition and consultation regarding access to hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgery, according to each person's goals and care needs.
Reporting directly to the Clinical Manager, you will provide assessment, consultation, and follow-up for clients and consultation to their primary care providers. You will conduct collaborative clinical assessments for individuals seeking access to gender-affirming medical care (hormone therapy, surgery) in accordance with the current World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care. These assessments will support informed decision-making and address each client's goals, capacity to consent, and relevant clinical and support needs.
You may also provide gender-affirming psychotherapy and psychoeducation to individuals, groups, and couples. Your clinical practice will reflect an understanding of the effects of trauma, transphobia, and other forms of oppression on mental health and access to care. You will demonstrate a commitment to reducing transphobia and supporting equitable access to care. You will contribute to a healthy, inclusive workplace that supports teamwork and complies with applicable organizational and regulatory requirements.
You will supervise psychology residents and practicum students and contribute to the training of psychology trainees in gender-affirming clinical assessment and treatment. You will work collaboratively with the interprofessional team, primary care providers, and community partners to improve the quality and continuity of care.
Opportunities to participate in public education, research, and program evaluation may be available.
The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in Psychology (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D., or D.Psy.) and be registered in good standing with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, with authorization to practise autonomously as a Psychologist. A minimum of three years of clinical experience is required.
You will have at least two years of demonstrated professional experience and relevant training working with 2SLGBTQ+ communities, including transgender and gender-diverse people. You must be qualified to supervise psychologists completing supervised practice requirements.
Knowledge of the current WPATH Standards of Care and their application to clinical practice is required. You will have experience or specialized training in gender-affirming assessment and care, including supporting people who experience gender dysphoria. Documented supervised training and competence in psychotherapy are required, along with knowledge and experience working with people who have experienced trauma and oppression.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within an interprofessional team are essential. You will demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to provide culturally responsive care to clients from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Research experience in 2SLGBTQ+ mental health and demonstrated partnerships with transgender and gender-diverse community organizations are assets. Relevant lived experience and sustained community involvement are also valued.
Competence in working with neurodivergent clients and providing neurodiversity-affirming care is an asset. Bilingualism in French and English, or proficiency in an additional language, is also an asset.
