Summary

Provide psychological expertise for pediatric mental health research at NIH, including assessments, MRI data collection, and team coordination.

Position Objective: The Psychologist will provide support to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) within the National Institutes of Health. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Emotion and Development Branch (EDB) has a requirement to collect complex psychological data using advanced engineering devices. These devices will interface with humans who will be engaged in research. Provide specialized expertise in MRI, psychological and behavioral method, physiological equipment and computer paradigms for pediatric mental illness research. Oversee onsite data collection, equipment operation, team coordination, participant monitoring and secure data management across the full research process. Quality checking of data, maintaining of data records related to therapeutic studies. Interface with clinical staff, trainees on administering assessments and interviews

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and screen patients for projects.
  • Perform cognitive and neuropsychological assessments for clinical care and research studies including diagnostic assessments containing parent interviews as well as direct testing with individuals. 4
  • Maintain records of screening results and patient information. 5
  • Conduct patient and volunteer follow-up evaluations and track patients through longitudinal studies.
  • Administers and interprets psychological assessments to probands and family members as part of the research protocol.
  • Facilitate research with novel therapeutics. 1
  • Contribute to the processes for evaluating efficacy of psychotherapy.
  • Provide consultation regarding study design and the use of psychological instruments.
  • Provide psychological subject matter expertise to researchers planning, implementing, monitoring, tracking and closing out clinical research.
  • Train research assistants, staff and trainees on psychiatric screening interviews and neuropsychological assessments. 2
  • Provide expert consultation to multidisciplinary research teams regarding study findings for incorporation into research manuscripts and presentation. 3
  • Monitoring and tracking participant behavioral task performance while going under MRI.
  • Ensure data is appropriately stored.
  • Maintain records of screening results and patient information.
