Position Summary

Position Summary: Associate Faculty provides an invaluable service to the College and our students by providing experience of their profession in our classrooms, laboratories, and studios. Instruction is provided via a variety of media, including face-to-face courses, and blended learning throughout Cochise County and our entire services area.

Compensation: $925 per equated credit

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities: Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position:


Teaches assigned courses to enrolled students and manages a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or laboratory environment


Develops, prepares and implements lesson plans; conducts pre- and post-assessment of students; evaluates, assesses and plans for students’ educational and social needs


Collaborates with other faculty and staff in assessment of teaching strategies and the effectiveness of the instructional program to help promote a culture of continuous improvement


Maintains student records, statistics, and/or other pertinent information as required by the college and the department


Resolves issues relevant to area of responsibility and scope of authority, referring more difficult or complex problems to the appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or other College official


Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Art from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting body of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures

Knowledge of trends, developments, new technologies affecting the Art program

Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications

Knowledge of research-based adult learning principles

Knowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies affecting education

Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional approaches

Knowledge of Ceramics materials, skills, and processes

Knowledge of glaze usage and application, and ability to teach basic glaze application to students

Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students’ needs and progress

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner

Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations

Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail

Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment

Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public

Ability to demonstrate and instruct students in the building of ceramic objects via pinch, slab, coil, and wheel-throwing methods

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work Environment: Work is performed in a classroom, laboratory, office, or online setting under limited supervision. Evening or weekend work may be required.


Physical Requirements: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate and exposure to biological and chemical hazards. May require travel, working evenings and weekends.


Medium Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force, frequently lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and requires a good deal of walking or standing


Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem-solving skills are important
