LOCATION: Cardiff (Central Square) - Hybrid

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Play a key role in shaping the BBC's relationships with political stakeholders across Wales and the UK at a pivotal moment for public service media. As the BBC engages audiences, policymakers and stakeholders in discussions about its future through Charter Review, you will help communicate the BBC's value, strategic vision and public purpose. Working within BBC Cymru Wales and the wider BBC Public Affairs team, you will provide political and policy advice, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and support the BBC's role in major debates on broadcasting, democracy, regulation and the future media landscape.

You will work closely with senior BBC leaders, parliamentarians and policymakers across Wales and Westminster, helping to shape conversations about the BBC's future, its role in Wales and its value to audiences. The role offers exposure to high-profile policy issues, strategic stakeholder engagement and significant opportunities for professional growth and development.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Provide political and policy advice to senior BBC leaders and colleagues across the organisation.
  • Lead and coordinate responses to Senedd Cymru and Westminster committee inquiries, including drafting submissions and briefings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Members of the Senedd, MPs, Peers and other key stakeholders.
  • Research, analyse and communicate political, regulatory and media policy developments affecting the BBC.
  • Organise stakeholder events, roundtables, visits and engagement programmes across Wales and the UK.
  • Produce internal communications, stakeholder intelligence and parliamentary updates.
  • Work with BBC Nations colleagues on policy and broadcasting issues across the UK.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Experience in public affairs, political communications, public policy or stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong understanding of Welsh politics, public policy, Senedd Cymru and Welsh Government.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting briefings and submissions.
  • Ability to analyse complex policy and political issues and communicate them clearly to varied audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills, with experience delivering projects and events to deadline.

DESIRABLE

  • Knowledge of broadcasting, media policy or the creative industries.
  • Experience working with parliamentary committees or legislative processes.
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders in government or public bodies.
  • Understanding of UK-wide political and regulatory issues.
  • Welsh language skills.
