REPORTS TO: Public Health Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: This position serves as the Public Health Secretary for the child and adolescent health and oral health program along with local public health services. This work will include data entry, filing, answering of phones, along with general office and community wide duties to assist in providing quality public health services to the community we serve.

ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE: 40 hours weekly , 8 hours days, with occasional outside business hours

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates and maintains a proper filing system for paper documentation.

  • Attends outreach events to improve the awareness of public health services and education within the community.

  • Works directly and as needed as back-up for billing specialist

  • Greets customers and triages phone calls for the department. Takes and relays messages appropriately.

  • Performs reminder recall for immunizations at the county level.

  • Orders and maintains departmental supply needs and is responsible for the orderly maintenance of supplies

  • Assists with immunization clinics, verifying insurance, and collecting information from the patient representative along with ensuring accurate documentation in IRIS.

  • Enters immunization information into the IRIS system for documentation of immunizations received

  • Maintains other files as directed by the department manager

  • Performs basic office tasks such as filing, answering phones, calling patients, scheduling appointments and other office duties within the Public Health office.

  • Works with the public, exhibiting courteous behavior, non-judgmental attitude, being culturally aware and maintaining client confidentiality.

Education:

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Experience:

  • Preferred: Healthcare experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination

  • Ability to operate a personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the Internet

  • Excellent written and computer skills, required.

  • Effective communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions.

  • Organizational skills necessary.

  • Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines on daily work and special projects.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Ability to learn and use various community programs.
