Purchaser (Tanker Vessels)
Summary
Procure spare parts, stores, and services for tanker vessels, negotiating with global suppliers and coordinating logistics to meet vessel trading schedules.
Responsibilities
- Manage procurement of spare parts, stores, lubricants, and services for assigned tanker vessels (Crude, Product, Chemical or LPG).
- Find, evaluate, and negotiate with approved marine suppliers worldwide to get good prices and on-time delivery.
- Handle requisitions from vessels, checking that technical specifications and maker references are correct.
- Collect quotations, compare prices, and prepare purchase orders following company procedures.
- Work closely with Technical Superintendents and vessel crew to clarify requirements and urgency.
- Coordinate with logistics providers to ensure timely delivery to ports worldwide, based on tanker trading routes.
- Track order status and follow up on outstanding items to avoid delays.
- Keep supplier records, pricing information, and procurement data updated in the purchasing system (e.g., AMOS, ShipServ, or similar).
- Follow company policies, ISM, ISPS, OCIMF and vetting requirements for tanker operations.
- Look into procurement trends and find ways to save costs without affecting safety or quality.
Requirements
- Minimum Diploma in Logistics Management, Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Supply Chain or equivalent would be an advantage.
- At least 2 to 4 years of experience in procurement, preferably with a ship management or vessel-owning company.
- Familiarity with marine procurement software, or a strong willingness to learn.
- Good negotiation skills with commercial awareness and the ability to manage multiple vessels simultaneously.
