Job Summary

BCI is seeking a skilled contract Python Backend Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and data pipelines. **Please note: This will be a 6-12 month contract.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Python, integrating data from multiple sources, and developing reliable, high-performance backend services that support analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives. This role requires expertise in Python, cloud technologies, databases, API development, and modern data engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines for processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
• Develop backend services and APIs using Python-based frameworks.
• Integrate data from databases, third-party APIs, cloud storage, and enterprise applications.
• Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot failures, and implement solutions to improve reliability.
• Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and automated testing processes.
• Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
• Optimize database queries and data models for efficient processing and retrieval.
• Deploy and maintain applications and pipelines in cloud environments.
• Create technical documentation, maintain coding standards, and best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field.
• A minimum of 5 years + of experience in Python backend development.
• Strong proficiency in hands on development with Python and object-oriented programming.
• Bash/Shell Scripting
• Hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or MongoDB.
• Experience with data processing libraries such as Pandas and NumPy.
• RESTful API development using FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (Preferred), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
