Python Software Engineer (Remote)
Salary: RM 7,000 – RM 10,500 per month
About the role
We are hiring a Python Developer for a small, fast-moving data engineering team in New Zealand. You will build backend services and APIs for applications that run natively in Snowflake.
You will use Advance AI (Claude/Co-Pilot/Gemini/ChatGPT) tools every day to move faster. You also need to know when the output is wrong, and fix it. We value people who think for themselves and ask for help when it makes sense.
We like people who build real things for fun. Side projects count.
Contract: 12 months, renewable (Conversion to Permanent is possible).
Fully remote. Core overlap with New Zealand hours, which is typically Malaysia mornings.
What you will do
Design, build and maintain backend services in Python
Develop and integrate APIs, including different authentication methods and secure data exchange
Build and support applications within Snowflake, including Snowflake Native Apps
Use AI tools like GitHub Copilot and LLM-based agents to prototype and build faster, while reviewing and correcting their output
Work with data using Python dataframes and common third-party packages
Write tests and help keep the codebase reliable as it grows
Contribute to frontend work where needed
Communicate progress clearly and raise blockers early
Must have
At least 3 years of real Python Backend Experience
Strong Python backend experience (mid to senior level)
Hands-on API design and development
Good judgment with AI tools. You can tell good output from bad, and you don't follow it blindly
Comfortable working independently, and knowing when to ask for help
Good written and spoken English
Notice period of 1 month or less
Good to have
Frontend experience with a JavaScript framework (React, Vue or Next.js)
Snowflake experience, especially Snowpark or Native Apps
Experience building integrations with SaaS platforms
Familiarity with data engineering concepts
Test-driven development practices
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
