QA Engineer

A Fortune 100 global technology leader with a major mining software development centre is seeking an experienced Test Automation Engineer to join one of its high-performing Agile delivery teams.

The organisation develops world-class mining technology solutions that generate and process vast amounts of real-time data from sensors, onboard systems, machine models and control algorithms. These solutions provide real-time guidance, monitoring, tracking and supervisory control across some of the world's largest mining fleets and are used by leading mining organisations worldwide.

As part of a major modernisation program, you'll help transform a long-established enterprise platform into modern containerised microservices, designing and building automated test suites that validate new services while ensuring behavioural parity with the existing platform. This is a genuinely hands-on engineering role where you'll write production-quality automation code that runs continuously within CI pipelines and catches real defects before software reaches production.

This is an initial 12-month contract with a strong likelihood of ongoing extensions. The organisation has a significant long-term technology roadmap and continues to invest heavily in the next generation of its mining technology platform, making this an outstanding long-term contracting opportunity.

THE OPPORTUNITY

• Own end-to-end quality for user stories by defining test approach, executing tests against acceptance criteria, and providing clear sign-off and test evidence.
• Create, maintain, and continuously improve test artefacts including test plans, manual and automated test cases, reusable scenarios, and test summary reporting.
• Define and uphold team QA processes and standards, ensuring consistent test practices and fit-for-purpose coverage across the delivery lifecycle.
• Partner with engineers to improve overall product quality through shift-left practices, quality gates, and participation in code reviews.
• Design, build, and maintain automated tests across backend services, and UI and API layers, including REST validation, RBAC permutations, and targeted gap coverage.
• Contribute to and evolve the Cucumber + Playwright automation framework, including migrating and refactoring high-value scenarios from the legacy Cucumber Java suite.
• Enable reliable continuous testing by configuring and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and monitoring daily automation execution, triaging failures and reducing flakiness.
• Plan and execute regression, acceptance, and exploratory testing as needed, balancing manual verification with automation to maximise coverage and confidence.
• Support test environment readiness and test data management for automation, including setup, maintenance, and ongoing optimisation.
• Collaborate closely with Team Leads, Product Managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to communicate quality status, risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Apply a risk-based, strategic QA mindset—defining coverage strategy, influencing quality decisions early, and advocating for quality across the team.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU WILL HAVE

• 4+ years' experience as a Test Automation Engineer developing automated tests that run within Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines
• Strong experience developing automation using TypeScript or JavaScript (Java, C# or Python also considered)
• Proven experience designing and maintaining reliable automated test frameworks
• Hands experience testing REST APIs, including authentication, authorisation, schema validation and negative testing
• Hands-on experience using Playwright (or Selenium/Cypress with willingness to transition)
• Experience designing maintainable Page Object Model automation frameworks
• Experience configuring or supporting CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or Jenkins
• Strong Git experience including pull requests and code reviews
• Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes of automation failures
• Strong understanding of Agile software delivery, SDLC, shift-left testing and quality engineering
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

• MQTT or event-driven architecture testing
• Kubernetes or containerised platform testing
• Java code reading capability
• Performance testing using k6, Gatling or JMeter
• Mining technology, industrial automation or safety-critical software experience
• Experience implementing outcome-based testing practices rather than step-driven UI automation

The role is based in Brisbane CBD and requires attendance in the office five days per week.

To be considered for this position, you must have unrestricted working rights in Australia. Australian or New Zealand Citizens and Australian Permanent Residents will be highly regarded.

Candidates currently residing within Greater Brisbane are strongly preferred due to the office-based nature of the role.
