QA Technical Lead

Summary

The QA Technical Lead builds and maintains automation frameworks for UI, API, and WebSocket testing while mentoring QA staff and enforcing quality standards. The role focuses on implementing technical strategies within a hybrid environment using tools like Playwright, JavaScript/TypeScript, and CI/CD pipelines.

Role Description

The QA Technical Lead owns the technical quality assurance of the projects in their scope, building and maintaining the automation frameworks, standards, and tooling that the QA teams work in day to day. This position requires a strong hands-on approach to automation, framework implementation, and technical mentorship, along with the ability to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

This role works within the platform-wide quality strategy and governance owned by the Senior QA Technical Lead, and is responsible for turning that strategy into working frameworks, enforced standards, and measurable coverage inside their projects. Where the Senior QA Technical Lead defines what good looks like across the platform, the QA Technical Lead makes it real in the codebase and processes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain robust test automation frameworks for UI, API, and WebSocket testing within your projects.

  • Evaluate, recommend, and integrate new QA tools, frameworks, and technologies to improve testing efficiency and capabilities.

  • Build out test automation aligned with CI/CD pipelines and ensure smooth integration of automated tests.

  • Track and report automation coverage metrics and quality KPIs for your projects, feeding into platform-level reporting.

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Work closely with Engineering Managers, Developers, DevOps, and Product Owners to ensure testability is built into the product design.

  • Mentor QA testers on technical testing skills, automation best practices, and troubleshooting.

  • Review and approve test automation code and scripts to maintain quality and consistency.

  • Partner with the Senior QA Technical Lead on strategy, standards, and cross-project alignment.

Process & Standards

  • Apply and enforce coding standards for test automation across your teams.

  • Contribute to test strategy and planning with a technical focus.

  • Support performance, security, load, and reliability testing initiatives.

  • Ensure all automation is maintainable, scalable, and reusable across multiple games and platforms.

Hands-On Testing

  • Develop automated tests for new features, regression suites, and performance scenarios.

  • Participate in debugging and troubleshooting issues alongside developers.

  • Validate integrations with backend services, streaming solutions, and real-time systems.

Main Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in software testing, including 2+ years in an automation-focused or technical lead capacity.

  • Proven experience as a Senior QA Engineer, Automation Engineer, or QA Technical Lead.

  • Strong hands-on experience with modern automation tools and frameworks (Playwright preferred; Selenium and Cypress also relevant).

  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and experience with backend, API, and WebSocket testing.

  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).

  • Familiarity with microservices, Kafka, and PostgreSQL.

  • Experience with performance testing tools (e.g. Artillery, JMeter, k6).

  • Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing test automation code.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in fast-paced environments.

  • Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience in online gaming, live streaming, or real-time applications.

  • Exposure to AWS, S3, or cloud-based device testing platforms (e.g. BrowserStack).

  • Understanding of Unreal Engine integrations or similar 3D/game technologies.
