Overview:

The Quality Assurance/Sanitation Technician supports food safety, product quality, regulatory compliance, and sanitation standards within the warehouse environment. This hybrid position is responsible for performing quality assurance inspections, verifying sanitation effectiveness, supporting environmental monitoring programs, and completing hands-on sanitation tasks as assigned. The role helps ensure compliance with SOPs, HACCP plans, SSOPs, GMPs, safety requirements, and established cleaning procedures while contributing to a clean, safe, audit-ready, and compliant food distribution operation.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-operational, operational, GMP, warehouse, and sanitation inspections to verify compliance with food safety, quality, and cleanliness standards.
  • Monitor and verify adherence to SOPs, HACCP plans, SSOPs, GMPs, sanitation procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements.
  • Perform sanitation verification activities, including ATP testing, APC swabbing, Listeria swabbing, and other assigned environmental monitoring activities.
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain assigned warehouse areas using approved sanitation tools and equipment, including brooms, mops, shop vacuums, floor scrubbers, squeegees, towels, and related supplies.
  • Operate floor scrubbers, power jacks, and other approved equipment as needed to complete sanitation tasks, deep-cleaning assignments, and rack-floor cleaning.
  • Complete routine and deep-cleaning assignments in accordance with sanitation checklists, work orders, cleaning schedules, and supervisor direction.
  • Use, label, handle, and store cleaning chemicals and sanitation materials safely in accordance with Safety Data Sheets, PPE requirements, and company safety procedures.
  • Perform pre-use inspections of sanitation tools, equipment, materials, and measuring instruments; calibrate equipment or report concerns as required.
  • Partner with warehouse team members to identify, correct, and prevent food safety, sanitation, quality, and housekeeping concerns.
  • Support the Quality Manager or Supervisor during food safety audits, sanitation audits, customer audits, third-party audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Communicate inspection findings, sanitation concerns, corrective actions, and follow-up needs clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Place materials, products, ingredients, packaging, or affected areas on hold when conditions may pose a food safety risk or compromise product quality or integrity.
  • Empty waste and recycling containers, consolidate materials for removal, and empty portable trash dumpsters as assigned.
  • Monitor and report inventory levels for food safety testing supplies, sanitation materials, cleaning chemicals, thermometers, swabs, PPE, and related materials.
  • Identify and report areas requiring maintenance, repair, pest control attention, sanitation follow-up, or additional cleaning.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records for inspections, swabbing, sanitation verification, corrective actions, inventory checks, and assigned food safety documentation.
  • Perform other quality assurance, sanitation, food safety, cleaning, and warehouse support duties as assigned.

Work Environment/Conditions

  • Must be able to lift bulky objects weighing 25 to 40 pounds regularly and up to 70 pounds occasionally.
  • Work may require standing approximately 30%, walking approximately 50%, and sitting approximately 20% of the time.
  • Work areas may include refrigerated environments with temperatures as low as 35 degrees.
  • Noise levels are generally moderate.
  • Must be comfortable working in wet conditions and around sanitation chemicals while using required PPE.
